Found out we are having a girl, it's our first baby so rather excited. These names are in our short list but also open to other suggestions. I don't want to choose a name that is 'on the up' so they become one of many in a few years time. Thanks :)

Which two would you go for and in what order?

Pearl
Violet
Autumn
Ella
Coral

Violet is on the up in my experience. DD has Violet as a middle name (22 months) and my 2 month old neice is called Violet. I do love Pearl but it didn't go with our surname at all or it would have been a contender.

I don't like Coral at all, sorry!

CarriMarie · 19/05/2012 16:19

Violet Ella goes well together (depending on surname) also like Juliet but not so much with Ella and middle name.

youarekidding · 19/05/2012 16:00

I love Autumn and Coral and like Ella too as a name not middle name. Mt contributions are:......!

Autumn Ivy or Ivy Autumn

Coral Eve or Eve Coral

Ella Autumn

Happenstance · 19/05/2012 15:50

Happenstance · 19/05/2012 15:48

Thanks for your honest responses. I have a feeling that Violet and Pearl could be the new Ruby and Lily.

I'm adding Ivy to my list. What about Juliette?

Violet is the most beautiful name on your list. Also like Ivy.
Ella is way too popular.
The rest are nice but not spectacular imo. Only one i'm not keen on is Pearl, for some reason i picture a black granny from the deep southern states (not that I have anything at all against black grannies from the deep south :o)

LiteraryMermaid · 18/05/2012 15:09

Like Violet and Pearl, but suspect both may be getting popular (especially Violet). Autumn OK - possibly a bit American-sounding? Much prefer Cora to Coral, which brings to mind someone middle-aged, for some reason. Ella very popular (and I say that as a teacher, who has taught many, many little Ellas!).

pumpkinsweetie · 18/05/2012 14:59

Voilet & Autumn would be my favourites out of your list Smile

pumpkinsweetie · 18/05/2012 14:57

What about Rosie, Blossom, Heather, Tigerlilly, Lavender, Daisy, Summer?

DottieRose · 18/05/2012 14:49

Violet Pearl would be my pick, I have been considering Violet on and off recently but it look like it is on the up big time I had a look on darkgreener.com/ and that really put me off as I would hate it to be ultra common like Lily!

ArthurandGeorge · 18/05/2012 13:19

I think that Pearl and Violet are both on the up. I kinow one Violet and a friend has it as her dd's mn.

I agree that Cora or Coralie are better than Coral.

Quite like Autumn, not sure if that might be on the up too..I know one.

CoolRunnings · 18/05/2012 13:14

Please use Pearl, my dp hates it but its my favourite girls name. I wish I could use it.

Pasiphae · 18/05/2012 12:52

Pearl is my favorite too.
I think it is becoming more used as a middle name, but seldom seen in first position.

I like Violet second, it's lovely but more on the up than Pearl.

And Coral 3rd, the L feel extra. I like Cora better or go all the way to Coralie/Coraline.
I am not really keen on Autumn and Ella.

tummytickler · 18/05/2012 12:45

I have a nearly 7 year old Pearl, so that is my favourite. Beautiful name imo!
Coral is my second favourite, and would be on my list again (along with Opal!) but can't have a Coral(or Opal) with a Pearl!
Violet is lovely.
Autumn is nms, not sure i like it, although ds has a lovely one in his class at school.
Not keen on Ella.

Pearl, Coral and Violet are my favourites.
(I also have an 11 year old Iris, so like that too!)

Stellan · 18/05/2012 10:48

If you don't want a name that is 'on the up', check them out on names.darkgreener.com/ You will be able to spot which ones have become increasingly popular over time and, as you say you don''t want a name on the up, you can rule them out.

Instinctively, I'd rule out Ella.

Of your list, I would pick either Pearl, Violet or Coral - they all sound very pretty and would suit a child or woman. (The only Corals I know are in their mid/late 20s.) Autumn is very pretty but it's not a name I would like to have so, for that reason, I'd rule it out.

redrubyshoes · 18/05/2012 10:47

I always see Violet as Violent and Coral is too close to Carol. Not keen on Autumn and would have doubts about being the Mother of Pearl.

Ella is pretty though.

Fussy? Moi? Wink
