I found out a few weeks after starting the thread that I'm having another boy, so I'm very glad that although I won't be able to use the name this time, you picked it! :)

Flora is lovely, I don't think of margarine but of flowers and fauna so to me it's a pretty name.

Emilia nice too, I think it would suit a more feisty girl where Flora more floaty and gentle.

Emilia is nice, but there will always be the short versions of Millie, Milly etc, of which there are many, & not to my taste as too popular
Flora is just dreadful!

I think they're both lovely, but there are lots of Amelia/Emilias now. I love Flora, and Florrie.

Old thread, but I ended up calling my little girl Flora when she was born on 19th May. The name must have stuck in my head!

I have a Flora, and she is delighted to see her name on margarine tubs and lorries. Have to admit I am astonished that people would think it's a teasable name by the spreading thing. Can't honestly see how that would a)happen, and b)bother her in the slightest.

We all love her name :-)

Spelling - was asked once to spell it by someone who had never "heard that name before" Hmm. And sometimes people think her name is Laura.

Flora - 100%.

It's very pretty, feminine, easy to spell, familiar without being overly popular, and a very lovely friend of mine is called Flora.

Emilia doesn't stand out to me at all - she'll just blend in with all the Amelias and Emilys and Emmalines and Amelies and Emmas. There's nothing wrong with it but it's just not very distinctive.

Emilia because that is our pfb, I find the E not A conversation neither here nor there, we call her Emmie or Mimi for short. I have heard other people use Millie and we also know an Emilija.

I like Flora too though and that was on my list, I also loved Theresa but DH didn't so Emilia it was.

I love Flora - one of the names I liked for dd2, but dh had issues with the spread. I also liked Cora, but dh didn't.

Both are lovely - would probably go for flora as i have met a lot of amelia's recently, so that would be my only reason. Both are lovely though. It depends what you want you can have nn milly for emilia but can't for flora

Thanks for the opinions! It seems the MN preference points slightly towards Flora, but just slightly.

So far dh has only agreed with Emilia, but let's see how it goes. I'd like to have more options than one name :)

In our first language Emilia is not popular and there is no doubt about the spelling (Amelia sounds completely different) but these things are bugging me in English. It seems Flora is spelt only one way in the whole world - isn't it?

Flora is a beautiful name. I'd call my daughter Flora, but her surname will be Moore and it just doesn't go.

Would go with Flora because there are sooo many Emilia/Amelia/Emily/Emma's already.

Flora - loved in in Jilly Cooper's but DH doesn't like it. Consider the teasing potential though - Interflora, spreads easily etc.

Much prefer it to Emilia though. She will spend her whole life saying,
'No, not Amelia, Emilia!'

I have a sister called Amelia and even she has to sometimes say 'with an A', so not sure that'd be a huge issue. I love the A and E spellings of the name equally. Flora is a beautiful name, I would probably be conscious of people associating it with the margarine, though... But that might just be me being odd :o

Like them both - good choices! Sorry that's not very helpful... Think I prefer Flora as I tend to like shorter names, and it is classic and not too common.
