List of babies born at my local (American) hospital - April

Fishpond · 11/05/2012 05:25

Background:

Been doing this since December. The parents have agreed to have their babies listed by name, picture, birthdate, and parents' names on my local hospital's webpage so they are public to all. I only include first names to try to maintain some semblance of privacy although the middle names are included on the page. I live in a midwestern American town of about 80-100,000.

Interesting note this month - 63 boys and 63 girls born Smile

Some really spectacular ones this month ladies Grin

Ohh Fishpond I look forward to these every month! My DD's have been on the last few (spelt properly)
I think the Jax/Jaxon may be to do with a TV show, Sons of Anarchy?

pigletpower · 15/05/2012 13:23

There is a Braxton in my sons class with a little sister called Precious.

crochetcircle · 13/05/2012 16:26

Thanks for the list fishpond

I love reading it.

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/05/2012 11:04

congratulations by the way Smile

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/05/2012 11:03

Ooh what's the name Fishpond?

Fishpond · 12/05/2012 23:06

I'm American and not at all offended! I think the pressure here is immense to have a unique name - whether that be the name itself or a spelling difference. It's all about the huge independence that is prized here from the earliest of ages. Just how it is.

Fwiw - the name I'm choosing splits British opinion (look forward to it on July's list Wink) but isn't made up or misspelled.

I'm in no way offended myboots Grin not american for a start. Just thought I should point out what I did.

mybootsaremuddy · 12/05/2012 22:24

sorry I didnt mean to offend anyone. There are some lovely names on this months lists(this is probably one of the best so far).
What I ment(but as usual didnt word it very well) was that having seen the lists from other months that the OP has posted before that as far as I can see in America there looks to be a tendancy to use a wider variety of spellings and unusual names (not that we dont have our fair share of people trying to be unique in the UK).

It looks like both in UK and USA people are taking perfectly nice names and then completely spoiling them by messing with the spelling in order to be 'different' from anyone else.

Braxton!?

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 12/05/2012 21:24

To be fair, after having another look at the lists there are some lovely names there. Ethan, Christian and Henry to name a few on the boy's list. I also like Abigail, Lucy and Phoebe too. Maybe some of the other more, ahem, unique names wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for some of the rotten spellings.

I certainly don't think it's fair to label everyone in the USA as having lousy choice in names for their children. I think it's just that the truly awful names on the list jump out at you.

mybootsaremuddy · 12/05/2012 20:25

Thanks for theses Fishpond Ive enjoyed all the other ones you posted. Been checking on here all week to see if you would post an April list..... I look forward to Mays nowGrin

It seems to me that the citizens of USA are a little more stupid brave with their name and or spelling choices.

bamboozledAardvark · 12/05/2012 15:33

If we're going for a theme I would take Stellan's suggestions of Barnsleigh and Coventreigh and put them in a sibset with Grimsbeigh. Nicknames Barn, Cov and Grim, naturally.

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/05/2012 15:24

bamboozled that's settled, my kids will be called Grimsbeigh, Billingham and Wiganne

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 12/05/2012 15:17

"Tempted to have a Monntrose or a Bellefaste or Barnsleigh. Maybe even a Coventreigh and Peterboro and Loutonne too. Whitbee, anyone?"

Just snorted coke out my nose at that! Give it time, give it time.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 12/05/2012 15:15

Who looks at their beautiful baby and gives them such ugly names?! I've heard of Brayden before and thought that was awful enough, but Braxton? Brantley? Ryker? And don't get me started on those awful girls' names....

"They also regularly have somebody come on and ask for an Irish name for a girl and the suggestions are Kennedy, Delaney, Ireland, Eire, Raegan and Katelyn, when anybody suggests an actual Irish name they're told it's too weird (Aoife is too similar to Adolf Hitler apparently )" Shock But.... but.... There are some lovely actual irish girls names out there. Why would you call your daughter Eire ffs?!

bamboozledAardvark · 12/05/2012 15:08

Grimsbeigh could always have a brother, Billingham.

Stellan · 12/05/2012 15:07

Tempted to have a Monntrose or a Bellefaste or Barnsleigh. Maybe even a Coventreigh and Peterboro and Loutonne too. Whitbee, anyone?

cakeismysaviour · 12/05/2012 14:46

Now I feel better about liking Bruno Hercules....

Grin

Some shockers on there! its even worse when they take a crap name and then to add insult to injury, they spell it badly.

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/05/2012 12:57

What other lovely place names could we name our DCs?

I'm going to call mine...Grimsby

Grimsbeigh if its a girl

nevergoogle · 12/05/2012 10:39

Brystol is my favourite on there. Fabulous.

Badgerina · 12/05/2012 10:36

I actually liked the name Harper before the Beckhams used it. Although I could never quite get away from it sounding very like Harpie.

GrimmaTheNome · 11/05/2012 17:53

Ivana - hopefully if Harper was inspired by anyone it was Harper Lee who wrote To Kill A Mockingbird, not a baby Beckham. Maybe that's where they got it from too. Anyway, I'd imagine that's one of the less outre names in the US.
