Middle name

I have one DD Smile Grin Smile. Her middle name was a name we liked anyway but had the added advantage of being the name of her great grandmother on DH's side - and the only one of her four great grandmothers not to have still been around to meet her. So DD is not exactly named after her great grandmother, but the coincidence was part of the reason we loved the name, IYSWIM.

We will be ttc soon. If we're lucky enough to conceive again, and if it's a boy, he will (probably) be named Alfred (nn Fred) Clive. Clive is DH's dad's name. DH's dad is the loveliest man alive, and he and DH are very fond of one another but don't always express it very loudly, so DH has always wanted to use his dad's name as a kind of roundabout tribute to him. I'm happy for this.

For a girl we both like Daisy, and would like something a bit more grown-up and solid-sounding for the middle name. But not only can we not think what that would be, but I KNOW that my family will be wanting us to use something from their family tree to level things out. Also, it would be kind of nice to have all names from somewhere in our children's family trees, at least since we've sorted of started this now.

BUT - my nan's name is Janet which I think is cute but she hates it with an absolute passion, and my other nan's name is Iris, and Daisy Iris is a bit too flower-power for us!

A bit further back my mum's grandmother was called Alice, and her mother Alice Martha. DH loves the name Alice, but I think Daisy Alice a bit twee. I like Daisy Alice Martha, but our surname begins with B so then the initials spell 'DAMB', which seems a bit wrong.

Ha ha. As I type this, I realise I am WAY overthinking. But what do you think?

Daisy Alice
Daisy Alice Martha
Daisy Iris
Daisy Janet
Daisy something else entirely - and what?!

My nan goes by Jan, though I think Janet far prettier and cuter. Maybe if and when the time comes we'll run it by her.

Our circumstances have slightly changed since I posted so we now can't ttc until Christmas ... so I guess we have a while to think about it!

Janet nn Jen (I know a number of people in my parent's generation with this nn) or of course Jan.

Oh! Grin I am too much of a loser to have picked up on that reference Blush

take that its far more basic and has something to do with Fearn Brittan and the tv series Angel Blush

eatyourveg · 09/05/2012 21:32

Yes Daisy Martha sounds good to me too

Grin

Is this anything to do with Pooh Bear? He wasn't a Winifred, was he?

I love the name Winifred, I think its a fab name and if you have a girl you can get your Fred too Wink

takethatlady · 09/05/2012 21:13

Ha ha - it's not Rose, but my brother-in-law's surname is Rose. He'd quite like to have a Rose Rose, which is much worse Grin

Daisy Iris ok as long as your surname is not Rose!

takethatlady · 09/05/2012 18:12

Ha ha fairyloo - yep, I'm being ridiculous Grin. But it's fun to be ridiculous and hypothetical, isn't it? Especially when you're excited to ttc. Actually, all baby name threads are faintly ridiculous Wink

Good ideas! Hate hate hate the name Margaret, though (sorry to anyone who loves it). Janet has no middle name, and Iris's middle name is Winifred. I'm not joking! Daisy Winifred Shock

Interesting some people like Daisy Iris. I thought people would think flower-flower-surname a bit silly. Will think of variations on Janet. Daisy Jane is a no no though (daisy chain!).

Thanks!

How about a merger of Janet and Iris into Janis.

Daisy Janis

welovesausagedogs · 09/05/2012 16:47

Daisy Iris is my favorite

Fairyloo · 09/05/2012 16:33

Do your grandmothers have middle names? Are they any more 'solid'? Or great grandmother names? Or a maiden name that isn't too surnamey to work as a middle name?

Or could you vary Janet: Jeanette (as suggested above), Jane, Janita?

BikeRunSki · 09/05/2012 16:21

I was going to sugguest Margaret Iris too, then you can legitimately nn her Daisy, but leave her with a Sunday best/grown up/Prime Minister name option too,.

hatebeak · 09/05/2012 16:14

Daisy can be a nickname for Margaret. You could officially name her Margaret so she has a more "solid" name to fall back on, but call her Daisy. Margaret Iris or Margaret Alice would be nice...

BlueChampagne · 09/05/2012 15:47

Would Jeanette be any better?

takethatlady · 09/05/2012 15:31

PS - I like Daisy Imogen but I have two friends with Imogens and I'm not sure DH could be persuaded.
