Edward or Albert?

So DC2 is definitely another boy. I am terrible with boys names but think we are down to these two and really like both. I am a bit worried Edward is getting really popular but I love Ted as a nickname. Also our surname starts with a W, and although its not as awkward as Edward Woodwood it still feels like a bit of a stumble to say. Albert / Albie would probably be my first choice but DS1 name starts with an A too and I think it nice to have a different initial. Am I over thinking this??? Any thoughts? Thanks! Smile

We've got an Edward who is always Ed. However at 16 he has got about 5 other Edwards in his year at school! On that basis I would probably go for Albert.

Otherwise, if you like the nn Ted how about Theodore?

madasahattermummy · 11/05/2012 09:52

ALBERT ! i have one and love it , now he's abit older he gets AL alot!

Rhirhii · 10/05/2012 16:02

Edward :)

Rather liking Edwin / Edwyn at the moment - though need to convince DH. emmylou - we love George but a very close friend has one so its a no unfortunately. DH loves Ernest, I can't get past "Ernie the fastest milkman in the west" I am afraid!

Edward

emmyloo2 · 09/05/2012 03:35

Oooh you have an Arthur! I am very jealous. I think then it should be Edward rather than Albert, because perhaps Albert and Arthur are too similar.

What about George? My DS is George and if we have another DS then both Arthur and Albert will be on the list.

What about Ernest? I prefer Edward to Edwin or Edgar. Ernest is great though!

Edward/Ed is so dull, sorry. Albert is quite nice but Albie along with Alfie, Archie etc are going to start to sound dated soon imo.

Agree that Edwin is lovely (and still quite underused).

PercyFilth · 08/05/2012 21:49

Edwin is good. There's also Edmund. I like these old English names.

Springforward · 08/05/2012 21:48

Edward.

rachel1970 · 08/05/2012 21:46

Arthur and Edwin are lovely together.

I think Edwin is much nicer and more interesting than Edward of which I know so many...

Rachelbow · 08/05/2012 21:42

neither as these are my names!!! DH vetoed Albert tho so I'll have Edward and you can have Albert Wink

Wildwaterfalls · 08/05/2012 20:57

I like Edwin! Unusual but not odd. Quite nice with Arthur too!

thetigerwhocametoteax · 08/05/2012 20:48

emmylou - you have excellent taste in names - DS1 is an Arthur!
I think Edward is the "safer" option and does have a great choice in nicknames, hadn't thought of Ned but might prefer to Ted. I am a bit worried that it is very popular but thats not necessarily a bad thing I guess. I think Albert is fab but might be a bit too old man, especially already having an Arthur. Might have a look at some Ed-like names, quite like Edgar and Edwin but no sure I am brave enough....Grin

Edward would be my preference but it is much more popular.

I love Albert, with the nn Albie but not sure I would be brave enough to use it.

What about Arthur? I love Arthur!

KeyWestK · 08/05/2012 03:13

Another vote for Edward ....

BBQJuly · 07/05/2012 23:12

True, Ed is quite dull... but if you must have a nickname for Edward it's surely better than Teddy, which is horribly twee. Still think Edward is a classic though. Edwin is nice too IMHO. Albert is too old-man-fad.

YouFloatLikeAFeather · 07/05/2012 22:28

Edward is dreadfully dull. Ed is worse

Go for Albert - much better

Happilymarried155 · 07/05/2012 21:41

I work in childcare and Edward is becoming increasingly popular. I would go with Albert-some really good nicknames, bertie & alby are cool!

welovesausagedogs · 07/05/2012 21:39

Albert

Lexiesgirl · 07/05/2012 20:33

Edward. Albert/Albie is cute when your DD is a little baby but I can't really see it working at 12...

perfectpins · 07/05/2012 20:32

Edward

Edward, nickname Ed.

Bertie/Albie/Teddy all too childish.

Casmama · 07/05/2012 19:46

Edward is a lovely classic name. Albert will always be uncle Albert from only fools and horses to me.

PestoPenguin · 07/05/2012 19:45

Edward
