James - classic, good solid name - my favourite
Tristan - don't like, maybe too American sounding?
Noah - nice name, quite trendy at the moment

Dorothea - not keen
Penelope - ok
Marie - pretty
Tabitha - Like it, beautiful name

QueenKong · 07/05/2012 21:48

Every Colin I have known has been utter filth...

Psammead · 07/05/2012 20:38

Ok. So why would you choose an adult name based on sex appeal? And what names have sex appeal? Personally I find it an odd criterion. People have sex appeal (or don't) - does a name make a huge difference?

i have given my children perfectly nice names that suit an adult or a child or have shortened version that suit an adult or a child, but sex appeal was not on my list when considering their names.

PercyFilth · 07/05/2012 20:24

Spot the people who fail to grasp that they are naming an adult as well as a baby.

cece · 07/05/2012 19:51

James - like but I think it is a 'naughtly' name
Tristan - OK
Noah - not keen

Dorothea - like a lot
Penelope - like a lot
Marie - prefer Maria
Tabitha - witches name

I would go for either Penelope or James

WithACherryOnTop · 07/05/2012 19:45

Never would it occur to me to consider the sex appeal of my future child's name. Perhaps that's just me.

5madthings · 07/05/2012 19:21

boys names i like Noah.

girls names i love Penelope and wanted it for my dd but dp said no.

and as for choosing a babies name based on sex appeal?! the sex appeal or not of a name never even entered my head when choosing names for my children.

QueenKong · 07/05/2012 19:17

I love Penelope. Would have been DS's name. I like Nell for a NN as a tot and Penelope will be perfect for when she is an adult - works equally well for an astute young businesswoman, politician or artist/musician.

James from your boys list.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2012 19:12

Love all of your boys' names - Tristan is gorgeous.

Not over-fond of any of the girls' names but Marie probably pips it.

Really dislike Tabitha and Dorothea.

Psammead · 07/05/2012 19:11

I am of the opinion that my DC would define their name rather than the other way round, so kong as the name wasn't extreme in one way or another Smile

Dorothy and Dorothea are both on the list - I like them equally.
Penelope would be nn Penny.

I am a bit disappointed that so many see Tristan negatively. Oh well!
'Chavvy' and 'try hard' not really applicable as we are not in the UK and as such are not constrained by the UK's social definitions - just by our own Grin

Thanks for the comments so far !

Love- James perfect name
Like- Tristan
Noah- ok bit now faddy
Dorothea- dont like
Penelope- like
Marie- just ok
Tabita- strongly dislike

Bonsoir · 07/05/2012 19:07

Why would you choose a name that has no sex appeal? Rather hard on your DCs...

WithACherryOnTop · 07/05/2012 19:02

Sexy?Confused Does anyone choose a baby name on that basis?

Bonsoir · 07/05/2012 18:55

James is nice but safe.
Tristan is horrible.
Noah is... chavvy.

Your girls names aren't pretty, sexy or intellectual (except Penelope).

MrsPlanB · 07/05/2012 18:52

James is a good, solid name with nice nicknames.

Noah is meh. Loads of them everywhere now.

Not keen on Tristan, I'm afraid. It's a bit wet. Sebastian nn Bastian? Love this.

I like Penelope best from your girl's list.

Dorothea is sweet.

Tabitha is OK.

Marie is boring. Maria or Mary are far nicer.

seeker · 07/05/2012 18:02

I know a Penny- her mother wishes she had used Penelope and shortened it to Penny.

MrsCornish · 07/05/2012 17:59

i love penny. i wish i'd dared use it for my dd

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 07/05/2012 17:59

James - nice
Tristan - I don't like it. Tristan to me is a member of a not very good, 90's American boyband. I think he may have been someone from the game Dream Phone....that might be why
Noah - lovely

Dorothea - no. just no.
Penelope - quite sweet if using Penny
Marie - bit dull
Tabitha - not to my taste

I'd go with Noah and Penny

LovelyJubilee · 07/05/2012 17:55

James - safe but boring
Tristan - awful, wet, boring.
Noah - ok but a bit try hard

Dorothea - No, Thea is nice though
Penelope - No
Marie - ok but boring.
Tabitha - No also a bit try hard

AceOfBase · 07/05/2012 17:55

I like James. But none of the others I'm afraid.

DorothyGherkins · 07/05/2012 17:49

Dorothy is a lovely name :)

tak1ngchances · 07/05/2012 17:46

James - lovely
Tristan - lovely
Noah - lovely

Dorothea - too "fancy". Would be nice if it were shortened to Thea
Penelope - ok
Marie - bit plain?
Tabitha - I think this is old fashioned

BBQJuly · 07/05/2012 17:41

James - like, classic
Tristan - like, if you're looking for something less traditional
Noah - OK but a bit faddy

Dorothea - not keen
Penelope - like, with Penny as nickname
Marie - OK
Tabitha - dislike

AThingInYourLife · 07/05/2012 17:38
