I'm looking for some advice about the name Catie with that spelling rather than with a 'K'. I like Katie but to me it's so much nicer spelt with a 'C'.

What do you think - is this an accepted spelling or is it one of those dreaded made up spellings we read so much about on this board?! Would it cause DD endless hassle having to spell it out all the time?

Also is Catie a name in it's own right - does it have to be short for something? thanks a million.

I know a Caitlin, Caitie for short.

EmpressOfTheSevenVagines · 06/05/2012 14:39

My Dsis is Catie short for Catherine, I don't think she has much of a problem.

SecretNutellaFix · 06/05/2012 14:38

I have never seen a Catie with a C.

Cait, short for Caitlin certainly, but never Catie. Looks a bit bizarre, imho.

woopsidaisy · 06/05/2012 14:36

Oh, I have to agree with Anne Shirley on this one....a K is much nicer than a smug C for Catie.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 06/05/2012 14:32

I think it's a try-hard, made up spelling tbh.

If you like names starting with a C, Cassie or Chloe have a similar sound.

HugeFurryWishingStool · 06/05/2012 14:31

Cate Blanchett seems to not have a problem!

DogEared · 06/05/2012 14:25

I'm not keen, sorry.

IslaValargeone · 06/05/2012 14:22

I never quite get the desire for a different spelling of what is a fairly ordinary name, and tbh she will constantly be saying 'with a c and ie' which I would imagine will be a source of annoyance.

Thanks for your replies.

PinkChampagne - is your colleague a Catherine, just Catie or something else?

My colleague is a Catie Smile

catinboots · 06/05/2012 14:14

What about Caitlin??

Belmo · 06/05/2012 14:10

I think Caity is possibly the normal C spelling? (could be making that up though!) But I like Catie, she would always have to spell it but that's not the worst problem, my names common as muck and people ask how it's spelt :)

passthebiccies · 06/05/2012 14:07

I have to say that in lots of years of teaching, and lots of Katies, I have never seen the name spelt with a 'C'. I do think that most people would automatically use the 'K' spelling, though of course those around her would soon learn! If I saw that spelling, I would assume it was Catie short for Catherine. Hope this helps!

BroomForMyChin · 06/05/2012 14:07

Quite pretty, but she will always have to say 'Its Catie with a C and an ie at the end'.

AWomanCalledHorse · 06/05/2012 14:07

If you called her Catherine she could choose whatever nn/spelling of Cate/Kate, Catie/Katie, Cat/Kat etc that she wanted.

GravyHadALumpyMashBaby · 06/05/2012 14:05

I think she would have to spell it all the time tbh. I really like it with a C though, never thought about it before and it looks pretty, so go for it if you love it.
She'll just have to say 'Catie, with C'. Not the end of the world. And I've always thought it was a name in its own right. Never really known it as a shortened version of anything. HTH
