Isla a pretty unexceptional name in Scotland, granted it is quite popular these days, but not overused, as it were.

I like it though when I put i on list oh pronounced it is- la. I've never met one

Oh, Iona is lovely. Much nicer than Isla and works well in all languages too!

I don't know any Islas (Surrey). I think of the Spanish island, Isla (pronounced Eesla).

The pronunciation in English shouldn't be a great problem, I think. However, in most other languages (German, Spanish, French etc) it would be pronounced EES-la. Worth bearing in mind for the future (who knows where your dd might study or work one day).

Would only say it as Aye- Lah. Have never heard it pronounced in any other way...

My daughter's name, but we used a different (and more meaningful to us) spelling. Unfortunately it has become very popular, so if this bothers you I would find something else - I would imagine if you give a baby this name now the likelihood of others in her class will be high. I can't imagine anyone having difficulty with the pronounciation, particularly now it is so well known.

The Madonna song Isla Bonita comes to mind, hence Ees-la as another way of pronouncing it.

I would pronounce it I-La. I didn't realise there were other ways to pronounce it!

I don't know any Islas (south west london) and I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it (Ees-la or Ayla)?

I loved the name Isla when having DD2 - shortly after we had her we text everyone saying she would be called Isla or (current name). We got LOADS of people saying IS-LA! That put me off straight away as very few people know how to pronounce it - unless they know one already. We chose our other name in the end for this reason despite loving it.

Do you pronounce it Ee-sla (like Isla Bonita) or Isle-a? If it is the latter, a lot of non English speakers will mispronounce it imo.

I must say I like it. Though I don't usually go for the more unusual names. But it seems to be getting more popular.
