Thoughts? Better clarify it's for a girl and not a boy...

I like it - yes, it is Hello Kittys sister. DD has a friend at Preschool who is Mimi. She has Japanese parents so this is her Western name. I think its cute but cant believe the parents missed the mark so much with her little brother: Ken. Seriously, Ken???

axure · 04/05/2012 23:23

I also instantly thought of Mimi Lebonque!

poppy283 · 04/05/2012 22:24

Isn't Nigella's daughter Mimi?

My French teacher at school was Mimi, short for Marie-Helene.

Seems it can be short for anything beginning with m!

MrsOzz · 04/05/2012 21:49

Mimi is what all the females in my family (including my gran!) call thei lady bits. So not for me I'm afraid.

first1 · 04/05/2012 21:26

I know a mimi short for Mia

BeattieBow · 04/05/2012 13:46

it is a bit porn star (in a similar way to Lola I think).

I quite like it as a diminutive for Miranda though. and I did once meet a Mimi whose full name was Amelia. She was very sweet.

Beamur · 04/05/2012 12:50

I like it - it has a lot of character, interesting that it could be the nn of so many names too.

squoosh · 04/05/2012 12:49

It's not a name it's the sound this guy makes

InnitDoh · 04/05/2012 12:41

Cute as a nickname. I know two Mimis - a Maria and a Miriam.

hatebeak · 04/05/2012 09:54

Diminutive for Miriam, too. I think it does run the risk of sounding a bit too cute on its own, but on a feisty girl would be brilliant. Problem is, of course, you don't know what you're going to get... I think it's not just a little girl name, either - I think a teenage Mimi would be cool, and I think Professor Mimi Something or Dr Mimi Something works too. It feels quite cosmopolitan and pan-European, as well.

SweetPea3 · 04/05/2012 09:44

Agree with AngelFairy - nn for Imogen

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:21

Oh I love Jemima nn. Mimi!

Moodykat · 04/05/2012 09:18

My grandma is a Mimi. Well, she's a Margaret actually but DSis couldn't say that! Also, a great friend of mine is Auntie Mimi to my kids as they can't say Jemima.

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:14

To add: it suits a cute little girl and maybe a petite, pretty adult but not sure if would work for a larger teenager/woman..for me it's just one of those names that conjures up images...

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:12

Think it's cute as a nn. but I would have a full name I.e. Emilia/Madeleine or something else and then use Mimi as a nn.

I know a Mimi who is 6 months old.

SailorVie · 04/05/2012 00:25

It's the diminuitive form of Madeleine. Very cute.

Firawla · 04/05/2012 00:15

I like it as a nickname, my ds2 gets called this as a nickname sometimes. mainly meem but sometimes mimi
Not very 'substantial' as a full name though

notsohot · 04/05/2012 00:14

I like Mimi. It's cute for a young girl and it's originality encourages a 'kick ass' with kindness feels for grown-ups - not sure about teenage Mimi's - but by then they own the name. There may be some marit it making it a nick name to allow flexibility.
Not wishing to influence your decision but we had a chicken called Mimi - she was very regal

PercyFilth · 04/05/2012 00:13

I have no opinion on Mimi, but I just wanted to say that carcastic is a splendid word.

AngelFairy · 04/05/2012 00:04

Nickname for Imogen, right?

welovesausagedogs · 03/05/2012 22:50

Love it, we know a sweet little four year old called Mimi her brother is called Ned. Lovely name, not overused and suitable for an adult and child.

fantagrape · 03/05/2012 22:45

Could also be a nickname for Naomi

I like it

aftereight · 03/05/2012 22:41

I like the name, but Mimi = Hello Kitty's sister (true fact, we have a DVD)
So I'd only use it as a shortened version of e.g. Amelia
