I think we have got out shortlist down to four for girls (middle name undecided) - comments welcome. I think they are all lovely but can't work out which one is the one. Of course we could end up having a boy - we've not found out.

Anna
Clemency
Frances
Sophie

Frances is great.

Then Clemency

Sophie and Anna are beyond dull.

Aworryingtrend · 01/05/2012 12:23

I would have to disagree with the PP! I would say in order of preference:

Sophie
Anna
Frances
Clemency

Beamur · 01/05/2012 12:27

I wouldn't choose one now. I had a shortlist of about 4 names that I liked and then waited to see which one suited. As it was, by the time DD was born she didn't fit any of those names so we went with a different one from the long list!
All of your names are lovely - Clemency is probably my favourite, mostly because it is both pretty and unusual, and I think Frances is another lovely but not overly used name. Sophie and Anna are both classic girls names, but much more commonly used.

FondleWithCare · 01/05/2012 12:29

Anna- lovely and classic
Clemency- don't like this
Frances- has always seemed more masculine to me but I do like Francesca
Sophie- gorgeous, very popular if that bothers you

manicinsomniac · 01/05/2012 12:39

Anna - lovely
Clemency - don't like
Frances - not keen
Sophie - lovely

Anna - lovely! Would be on our shortlist if it went well with our surname!
Clemency - dont like at all
Frances - dont like at all either - as mentioned above, does sound more masculine to me and not pretty at all
Sophie - fab! is on our shortlist! (though very popular)

Haberdashery · 01/05/2012 13:13

Frances - fantastic, pretty, classic and strong at the same time
Clemency - lovely, but much more 'girly' than Frances, also may date quickly
Anna - classic and lovely but maybe a touch dull
Sophie - extremely popular and that's not even counting all the Sophias and Sofias as well. It is pretty but I find it very boring.

exoticfruits · 01/05/2012 13:22

Not Clemency.

YouFloatLikeAFeather · 01/05/2012 13:33

Frances is lovely - my favourite
Clemency - pretty
Anna - safe but dull
Sophie - really dull, don't like, sorry

Miffyonline · 01/05/2012 14:48

Sophie
Anna
Frances
Clemency

BBQJuly · 01/05/2012 14:51

They're all lovely names. I like Sophie and Frances best.

oikopolis · 01/05/2012 15:41

all lovely. Clemency strikes me as a little faddy, but it is a lovely name in and of itself so that's not too much of an issue.

DidntGetTheMemo · 01/05/2012 15:53

I love Anna and Frances (great name). Fances would be a braver choice, I think, Ann a safer one.

Sophie is 'meh'

Clemecy is awful and a very heavy name for a person/

DidntGetTheMemo · 01/05/2012 15:53

Frances and Anna, obv

MoonHare · 01/05/2012 16:05

Love Frances. Anna is OK. Not keen on Sophie, bit too girly. Clemency seems a strange choice to me, odd connotations for a name "to show mercy to an offender or enemy."

AWomanCalledHorse · 01/05/2012 16:11

Anna- Like, it's a bit plain but it's nice.
Clemency- Dislike this...makes me think of weather.
Frances- Love this, but I was put off it (for DC that turned out to be DS) because of Fanny. The Frances I knew was always known as 'Fanny haha'
Sophie- Hate this...can't understand why it's so popular!

I don't think any of your shortlist 'go' as first & middle name.
I had a name picked out for DS from day one of pg...he popped out & looked nothing like it so he was nameless for 3 weeks.

Good luck with the rest of your pg!

PercyFilth · 01/05/2012 16:12

Yes, I think Mercy is much nicer than Clemency :)

Can't really go wrong with Anna.

Sophie has been very very popular and is a bit 90s.
I like Francis for a boy, but dislike Frances for a girl and really hate Fran as a nn.

Shinyshoes1 · 01/05/2012 16:15

don't like any of them sorry Hmm

what about Clement, instead of Clemency just throwing that one out there

Frances is OK, but ill be shortened to Frankie by the time she's at senior school. Frankie is awful and reminds me of a child that needs a good wash in Dettol

monkeymoma · 01/05/2012 16:17

Anna is my fav

wasabipeanut · 01/05/2012 16:36

Stop Clemency bashing! I love it - OP I can never use it as DH has vetoed but you should! It is the name I have to let go

Anna & Sophie a bit boring. Quite like Frances though.

Badgerina · 01/05/2012 17:22

Anna - Probably the best. Annie is very sweet for when she's little.
Clemency - No. The meaning is a bit weird. Clementine?
Frances - Francesca is better.
Sophie - Bit boring.

tomverlaine · 01/05/2012 17:41

I sort of like clemency- but it isn't it like mercy - eg you ask for clemency if you want someone to be forgiven/pardoned.

Sophie and Anna are really common round here.
I like Frances but prefer francesca.
Clement is a boys name- Clementine?

yellowflowers · 01/05/2012 21:32

I like that meaning of clemency op - surely a good thing to show mercy?

All nice names.

welovesausagedogs · 01/05/2012 21:41

I really like clemency and you could use Clemmie as a cute nn when she is little.

Anna and Sophie, are soooo boring and so overused.

Frances is alright but agree that Francesca is far better.
