Bethpp · 27/04/2012 22:28

Hi, we are expecting a yellow baby on 4th May - we are happy with our boy choice - Harry Carter but would like advice on Sydney Coco if it's a girl.

Cheers!

How about Cydney Elise?

DumSpiroSpero · 28/04/2012 16:53

No worries Scatter - I actually resorted to wiki to check before I posted! Grin

winkle2 · 28/04/2012 15:29

I like Sydney Coco!

CherryBlossom27 · 28/04/2012 14:53

I like the boys name Harry Carter although Harry wouldn't be my choice it is becoming quite popular.

I like the name Sydney for a girl and I don't think it sounds chavvy at all (maybe I am a chav?!), have to be honest and say I'm not keen on Coco. I like names after places e.g. Paris, Florence, Sydney, India etc because I love travelling.

Not a stripper, clearly

Janoschi · 28/04/2012 14:41

Cyd Charisse wasn't chavvy... though her real name was Tula Ellise.

Socorro is a long version of Coco...

ScatterChasse · 28/04/2012 14:33

DumSpiro it wasn't that I thought you didn't, just I'm very proud of knowing that bit of useless information! I once won a pub quiz with it, so whenever she comes up, I mention what her given name was Grin and don't tell everybody I only remember because of the handbag make

DialMforMummy · 28/04/2012 14:01

Sydney Coco sounds like a Ben and Jerry's flavour. Great for ice cream, not so good on child.

PercyFilth · 28/04/2012 13:44

Sydney is a man's name. Whether you spell it Sidney or Sydney, it's still a man's name.

Coco is a nickname. It could be used for Constance or Corinna or Colette or Cora or Cordelia. Or something completely different.

DumSpiroSpero · 28/04/2012 13:24

Scatter - that was me. I know she wasn't named 'Cyd' (apparently it came about because one of her younger siblings couldn't pronounce 'sis' Grin ), but I think it's still a nice potential connection.

Sydney Rose went through my head too, although it sounds a bit like Nicole Kidman's Sunday Rose.

ScatterChasse · 28/04/2012 13:07

Who mentioned Cyd Charisse? She was originally called Tula...

I wouldn't go for Sydney Coco, because I don't really like the sound of the two names together, but that's probably just me (I'd pick a one syllable middle name, so Sydney Rose for example). But you obviously do, because your boy's name is the same, so go for it! Smile

chantico · 28/04/2012 12:23

The character Seymour Butts might make one think twice about using that as a first name.

LillianGish · 28/04/2012 12:19

Wasn't one of the Lady Redesdale, mum of the Mitford girls called Sydney? Hate Coco - fine as a nickname (Chanel was Gabrielle I think) - but combination here is just dreadful (well you did ask!)

1950sHousewife · 28/04/2012 11:58

Bristolboop - I think that the Helen and Anne suggestions were perhaps to have a bit of a joke because as silly as the stripper names are, Anne and Helen are the opposite.

Personally, I would go for one or the other - I like Sydney. How about a Sydney and then something less Bobo the clown?

redstormrising · 28/04/2012 11:05

I think Sydney is ugly. Sidonie is lovely! I really like the name 'Seymour' fo a girl- I know in the US it is usually a boy's name, but believe it was originally a girl's name. It sounds kind of soft.

WithACherryOnTop · 28/04/2012 11:00

It's awful.Truly terrible.Sydney is ugly,and Coco is just silly.

Somethinginthewoodshed · 28/04/2012 09:47

My dd was jaundiced too, don't worry she was fine after feeding constantly for a few days

bruffin · 28/04/2012 09:22

Sidonie can also pronounced Sidney. It's a much prettier spelling.
Sydney will always be a boys name to me

ThePathanKhansWitch · 28/04/2012 09:02

I love Sydney, but not with Coco.

PJHarpy · 28/04/2012 09:02

There is a wide ocean of names between Anne and Sydney Coco, though, isnt there?

Its the difference between Widdecombe and Jordan.

bristolboop · 28/04/2012 09:01

Sorry just to be clear this is Bethpp the op - just changed my nickname!

bristolboop · 28/04/2012 08:51

Ah terrific thanks all. I think we still love it, and with suggestions such as Helen or Anne etc it's clear that we all have different views from each other!

Cheers Smile

PJHarpy · 28/04/2012 08:34

'I'm in lurrrrve with a STRIPPERRRRRRR'

No.

chantico · 28/04/2012 08:32

Sidonie is a lovely name, but it's completely separate from Sydney/Sidney.

Sidonie (var. Sidony) is derived from the Latin Sidonius (place name, which used to be used as a boys name). Sydney is a transferred Norman surname, derived from Saint Denis.

bruffin · 28/04/2012 00:19

Isnt the girls spelling Sidonie?
