For anyone following the saga, our surname is Cummings and we were going to go with Barnaby (nn Barney) but somehow didn't use it so it hasn't stuck. We still might well go with it but an alternative has popped up - Rex. Similar to Max which we liked but hopefully without sounding rude?

I'd appreciate any honest opinions please!

I know a grown man called Barney. Its better than Rex. Much better.

ivykaty44 · 27/04/2012 18:09

wow names are not good as you go of them, stick to good names that will last - like Leo. It will be timeless.

There where 52 boys given the name Rex in 2010

Stellan · 27/04/2012 18:05

Rex Cummings sounds a bit naughty to me too. Sorry, it's a hard surname to work with.

Benedict Cummings?

TheFallenMadonna · 27/04/2012 18:01

I like Rex the best out of those 3, and Barney the least.

Anonymousse · 27/04/2012 17:57

Yes we've been calling him baby!

Thanks for all the suggestions - unfortunately DH doesn't like Ben/Dexter/Zac/Charlie. Leo OK but not wow. Rob a family name, can't have Tom as DH is Tim

FishareFriends why would Rex not be good if he was a big lad?

Moonhare - exactly, I worry Barney a buit cutesy for a grown man

Holycamera - we have been back to the drawing board several times and this is what we've come up with

Rex seems to really divide opinion!!

I love the name Rex. Think it's strong and unusual. Also was the name of a beautiful boy I grew up with Grin

Ignore people who say it's a dog's name. My dog's name is Ella, should no one ever use that name now for a little girl? Very silly reasoning IMO.

catchafallingstar · 27/04/2012 17:44

your son is 5 weeks and no name?!!
What have you been calling him all this time - just 'baby'?

dont know how that can happen.....surely after 5 weeks you have an inkling of a name that he should be called?

I like Max

YY for Charlie

Rex means "king" in latin (but I'd have to agree I know a few Rex dogs)

Levi Cummings I think sounds good for a teen boy, an old bible name but so are a lot of other names

nizlopi · 27/04/2012 17:30

Its a brilliant name. Love love love.

(also, when I was younger, I knew 4 dogs called Barney, one called Barnaby and 0 called Rex, so ignore the haters.)

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/04/2012 17:29

Ben, (slightly less doggy)...
Yes. Ben was a rat! Confused

Catsu · 27/04/2012 17:29

Rex is fab :)

MardyBra · 27/04/2012 17:27

Ah, but Maryz, you know I'm right. You said so once. (Look at my hoverer)

I'm not keen on either TBH. How about Dexter - Dex - which is similar to Rex and goes well with your surname?

softpaw · 27/04/2012 17:22

Charlie Cummings has a good ring to it

lisaro · 27/04/2012 17:20

Is it a dog or a child?

ivykaty44 · 27/04/2012 17:18

So best stick with Rob then Grin

Or Zac, Ben, Leo?

LST · 27/04/2012 17:16

I don't like Rex for a child as I have a v furry Rex sitting on my knee as I type.

I like Barney though.

MoonHare · 27/04/2012 17:13

I know of two grown up Rex's and no dogs called Rex. I quite like it. Like Barnaby too but maybe it's a bit cutsie for a grown man so can understand why you had a wobble.

What's your pre-married name? Why not all change your surname to that?!!?

MardyBra · 27/04/2012 17:12

Rex is fab AND imaginative. Barney is nice too, but not as good as Rex.

Beanbagz · 27/04/2012 17:10

I really prefer Barnaby to Rex and i think it goes better with your surmname. To be honest Rex just seems like a dog's name.

I like Thomas and Sebastien too, both would go with Cummings.
