What do you think of Keturah as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Catarrh? Wouldn't go there.

BigHairyFlowers · 17/04/2012 12:43

Isn't it from Doctor Who? Or similar to. Katura

PercyFilth · 17/04/2012 12:32

I'm not sure if I would have known of it, had I not done local history research involving poring over parish registers and censuses where it crops up now and again.

Yes, I like it. Would shorten to Kitty.

DerbysKangaskhan · 17/04/2012 11:48

Lovely. It was a strong contender for DS2 is he'd been a girl.

scottishmummy · 17/04/2012 11:40

wife/concubine of abraham, certainly havent met anyone called this
i kind of associate it with lilith and other OT names

CecilyP · 17/04/2012 11:19

Secular community? All those years of Sunday School and 7 years at a very churchy CofE secondary and I have still never heard of it.

CornishKK · 17/04/2012 08:27

Sounds like Ketamine to me too or an obscure type of protein. Sorry.

lisaro · 17/04/2012 08:01

It sounds like a weaker form of ketamine.

oikopolis · 17/04/2012 03:13

i like it. lovely meaning ("incense"). wouldn't use it but would comment favourably if i heard it somewhere.

fwiw it's instantly recognisable to me as a "real name", and a biblical name at that. in a v secular community, it might not be so recognisable, hence it seeming "made up" or like a product name etc.

CecilyP · 16/04/2012 23:32

Like Keturah will shift that catarrh.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 16/04/2012 23:20

Sounds like a cough medicine. Don't like it sorry.

CecilyP · 16/04/2012 22:59

Yes, sounds like a cleaning product. One that will tackle the jobs where other products fail.

sallymonella · 16/04/2012 21:29

Sorry, but I don't like it. I'm not sure how it's promounced, but every way I can think of pronouncing it, it sounds harsh.

MummysLittleSunbeams · 16/04/2012 21:22

The first thing that entered my sleep deprived pregnant brain was Kentucky Fried Chicken. Sorry.

pictish · 16/04/2012 20:56

It's fine.
I think it's one of those names that people will say "what?" at and need spelled out for them, but other than that it's quite nice.

Bue · 16/04/2012 20:54

I love this name. Unfortunately most people will be ignorant of the origins so will think it's made up instead of an Old Testament classic.

meditrina · 16/04/2012 16:45

I like it, but I'm not sure how it's said: where do the stresses fall?

doctordwt · 16/04/2012 15:34

Ok, I know it's an old name but it does sound a bit made uppy! Much prefer Kerensa

BBQJuly · 16/04/2012 15:11

It's a nice origin and meaning. Yes it's a Hebrew name - Keturah was Abraham's wife after Sarah died. It means "Incense".

However... it does remind me of Kerry Katona.

squoosh · 16/04/2012 15:03

Wowzers!

Schlumberger · 16/04/2012 14:53

I think Keturah Brown was a lingerie designer??

tara0202 · 16/04/2012 14:52

Oh sorry, I am not a fan. I think it sounds like a thunder cat or a power ranger or something!

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 16/04/2012 14:51

I really like it - it's an old biblical Hebrew name isn't it.

In any case I think it's lovely

redrubyshoes · 16/04/2012 14:50

It sounds like a TV or DVD player.

MissGreatBritain · 16/04/2012 14:50

Sounds made up. Think it's hideous. Sorry.
