Hi

Would like to hear your opinions on Anneliese - also re the spelling, is this the 'correct' spelling or would you go for another version.

Any similar suggestions welcome too.

Thanks

My eldest is called this & i wouldn't really care about it being old fashioned as alot of names are nowadays but just re-hashed.
Atleast it is a pretty name which is not popular in the uk that is why i chose it- i cant stand 'simple' names like Emily, Katy, Claire etc as they are too common and too many people have those namesGrin

Schulte · 17/04/2012 21:53

Errrrm... only if you are German, which you are probably not, otherwise you wouldn't ask about the correct spelling?

Booette · 17/04/2012 21:45

I love the name. I vaguely remember the girl off Neighbours. Two of my favourite songs have the name Annalise in (spelt that way, both American bands) Now I have to listen to them!

sonniboo · 17/04/2012 21:28

Really, is Anneliese making a comeback in Germany? I thought it still was a very uncool, old fashioned name. My aunt is called this, pronounced Ann-eh-lee-seh. Not sure I like it, I prefer Anne or Anna.

Goofymum · 17/04/2012 21:23

Anneliese is a very pretty name, it was my German grandmother's name.

freerangeeggs · 17/04/2012 21:09

Anneliese is the most attractive spelling IMO. Annalise makes me see 'anal'.

Bue · 17/04/2012 16:59

Anneliese is the German spelling. It is a total grandmother name over there but from what Janoschi says it sounds like it's coming back - so out, it's in. It's a beautiful name.

DaSmallPunsMum · 15/04/2012 23:41

Beautiful name how is it pronounced?

FoxyRoxy · 15/04/2012 23:20

Annalisa, Annalise, Anneliese... lots of variations that end up pronounced the same way, Anna-Leese. Even with an A on the end, trust me, I know Grin

Anneli is not supposed to be pronounced Annalee, the li is like you would say the li in lit, if that makes sense? It's Scandinavian.

I know 4 German girls called Annaliese - pronounced Anna-lee-suh. All in the 3-7 age group, all living in Berlin. So it's maybe viewed as a cool 'old lady' name, similar to Winifred etc here.

Lieselotte is fab. I know one called Lilo for short. Also Pippilotte, which is funky but we decided against it because I had the association 'peepees alot' as in piddles a lot. Which is no doubt me and my dirty mind.

Ambersivola · 15/04/2012 15:42

I know an Annaliese (German origin) pronounced anna-lees. Also know a Lysianne pronounced Lee-see-ann.

anniewoo · 15/04/2012 15:31

Such abeautiful name

belgo · 15/04/2012 13:01

I wouldn't worry about the Neighbours association, it's hardly a negative association is it? Not like "Blanche' from Coronation Street?

MagsAloof · 15/04/2012 12:45

I know a German Annelise

Very pretty name.

pumpkinsweetie · 15/04/2012 12:33

My daughter is called Annalise, i named her after the neighbours character Annalise Hartman Grin.
Very good name choice even the variations are lovely Smile

belgo · 15/04/2012 12:29

I know an American Annelies (not sure of the spelling), it does transfer to other countries reasonably well.

Daya · 15/04/2012 12:21

Thanks for the info re ages, hopefully neither faddy nor awfully middle aged.

Maybe Annelise a compromise on the spelling and still easy to pronounce

I had a friend at school called Anneli (pronounced Anna Lee) - never met another. She was never Anna either.

Hulababy · 15/04/2012 12:06

Re, ages of the two I mention:

Annalise - 6y - uk
Annalisa - early 20s - sweden

Hulababy · 15/04/2012 12:05

DH swedish cousin is called Annalisa, another alternative with a similar sound/pronunciation.

Annalise - anna/l/ee/s

Annalisa - anna/l/ee/s/a

belgo · 15/04/2012 11:59

In Belgium, two syllable names for girls are very popular: Jara, Jada, Minna, Lotta.

And for boys, one syllable names such as Grimm.

belgo · 15/04/2012 11:57

I don't think I know any children called Annelise, the only Annelise I know is in her forties. But in my opinion that doesn't really matter, because the dutch/flemish names that are in fashion now for children are very ugly, and difficult for foreigners. Or simply very plain.

Adelheid, nickname Heidi, is very pretty, but might be a bit difficult.

Daya · 15/04/2012 11:54

Also belgo - sorry to bug you :)

Is Anneliese a name that's used for children much over there or is it more middle aged / out of fashion now.

Thanks

Laura has a different pronunciation in dutch, more 'low-ra- with the 'low' to rhyme with 'ow' (the ow from ouch)
