What do you think of Juniper? I read a book as a child with an amazing heroine named Juniper and have liked the name ever since. I love how it looks written down but something is bugging me about the sound 'iper' at the end. Thoughts please?

Sorry OP for derailing your thread there! I wanted to add that Juniper has grown on me even more now, and that Juno is a cool nickname

freerangeeggs · 20/04/2012 20:01

Scottishmummy, I have to admit to laughing out loud at the Joby thread. I told my partner about it and he was horrified. No offence to the person who started that thread as they obviously didn't have that association!

I once came across an American child named Paki. No kidding, it was short for Patrick

WildRumpus · 19/04/2012 08:55

I love Juniper. Pretty and fresh and not overly cutesy with a good selection of nicknames (I particularly like Juno).

scottishmummy · 18/04/2012 19:30

well yes fine for a soft toy doesnt equate to good name for child
we have a toy rhino called horny....

mrsSOAK · 18/04/2012 12:20

we have a stuffed animal called Juniper, he gets shortened to Juni which we really like.

usualsuspect · 17/04/2012 21:46

Pretentious

scottishmummy · 17/04/2012 21:44

I just think the shout that in the park is good test
juniper yer tea is oot, just doesn't cut it for me

don't get me started on calling a kid ned

and I know someone posted jobby on mn as potential name. Christ now that is really asking to be sniggered at

freerangeeggs · 17/04/2012 21:13

I think it's an awesome name. Scottishmummy, I think Scottish people (if you are Scottish? I take it you are :) Me too, though I live in London) are more conservative when it comes to names than other parts of the UK.

DottieRose, what an amazing bunch of names!!

Pixieonthemoor · 17/04/2012 14:58

I like it!! Unusual but not bizarre or weird!!

beachyhead · 17/04/2012 14:55

Have you not seen Life of Brian? Naked man & juniper bushes Grin

MessyTerrier · 17/04/2012 14:53

I agree with Scottish Mummy here.

What about June?

scottishmummy · 17/04/2012 14:52

op asked for opinion, i gave it
and as this attests what one person considers quirky/unique/unusual is not universal. as for top 10 names i have no strong feelings other than they are bitty over done and there are lots of jacks, and ava and so long as you know that fair enough

FluffStar · 17/04/2012 07:06

Not keen either sorry. Falls into the "Tarquin" camp for me.

SneakyBiscuitEater · 17/04/2012 06:59

scottishmummy you are right we should all call our kids top 10 names so they can be normal. We certainly shouldn't aspire to any more than mediocrity for their future after all the absolute worst thing would be to have an ordinary child with an extraordinary name. OP have you considered Evie instead, it is much more pedestrian? [Wink]

SoFarWeAreEqual · 16/04/2012 17:52

Love it - could shorten it to Juno too which is fab.

Alligatorpie · 16/04/2012 16:37

Love it!

DottieRose · 16/04/2012 16:19

Totally gorgeous.....I heard of a lady who named her daughters Juniper, Beatrix, Romilly, Coraline and Pippa! Isnt that a sibset to die for!

Pasiphae · 16/04/2012 11:40

Fabulous!

TeWihara · 16/04/2012 10:48

I like it. Would be good with a short punchy surname.

scottishmummy · 16/04/2012 10:42

don't like falls into the trying too hard category
and as much for all this she may be a goddess who does archery....she may be a regular lassie who does crosswords

squoosh · 16/04/2012 10:34

I love Juniper, one of my favourite nature type names. So pretty without being frilly.

Somethinginthewoodshed · 15/04/2012 22:01

Isn't juniper poisonous? [irrelevant]

Spink · 15/04/2012 22:00

Ive got a friend called juni, short for juniper and I love her name. She is pretty quirky Wink also immensely wise& kind, it very much suits her.

perplexedpirate · 15/04/2012 22:00

Oh now, sorry just seen the book was from your childhood. Well there's a juniper in the distant hours too. Smile

perplexedpirate · 15/04/2012 21:59

Love it. Was it the distant hours btw?
