I really like it but what's the mumsnet verdict?

I really like it too. Don't think I would be brave enough to use it though. It is sort of a "statement" name. It has dog connotations in the same way that Felix might make you think if a cat. i.e. it's fairly common name people give their dogs. Don't think that's a problem unless your surname also has canine associations!

I know dogs called: Jack, Freddie, Molly, Milly and Jess

Never met a dog called Rex!

Please use Rex....it's a brilliant name.

She flips pancakes, what does she know?

squoosh · 13/04/2012 14:41

Ignore the janitor, mild mannered or not!

Pancakeflipper · 13/04/2012 14:40

If I heard someone shouting Rex in the park I would expect a dog to come bounding past ( or a dinosaur).

I really, really love the name Rex. It's so manly, so cool, so easy to spell. I know people will delight in saying 'it's a dog's name'. It's not, no dog has been called Rex since 1947. Dogs are called Molly, Lily, Max and every other name in the world.

You are to remain resolute and call your son Rex.

By non-royal decree,
Squoosh.

Why is it a dogs name?
