I love it! It's manly & quite cool, and I definitely don't think of dogs when I hear it.

Pancakeflipper · 13/04/2012 16:41

Jaffa - he is not single ( he has a lovely wife) and he is now in his 70's. But we all still call him Sexy Rexy.

lisaro · 13/04/2012 16:40

I actually do know a dog called Rex. He's my sisters Cavalier King Charles spaniel, hence the name. But even before this I have to confess I would view it as a dog's name.

fanjodisfunction · 13/04/2012 16:39

I know it doesnt matter what others think Im just interresting in why people think dogs name when they hear it, was there once a famous dog called Rex? I understnad the Felix thing as theres cat ffod called Felix and also the cartoon but is there the same thing for Rex.

I will use it if DH agrees.

For me the same way I hear felix and think cat I hear Rex and think dog however I have also met a dog with my dd name. If you love Rex it does not matter what anyone else thinks .

LilyBolero · 13/04/2012 16:31

Ronald Reagan's dog was called Rex - which is quite funny as it was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, so not the most suited of names (though there is the 'king' link). Rex's Wikipedia link here

jaffacakehips · 13/04/2012 16:31

He is an utter gentleman. He's the type of guy who makes everyone feel like they are the most interesting/amusing/gorgeous person in the world . We all love him. He is dapper and has the most amazing vintage racing car
is he single....?{slaps wrists married lady} Grin

Pancakeflipper · 13/04/2012 16:19

My neighbour had a German Shepherd called Rex.
My Aunt had a Westie called Rex ( it really didn't suit)
The guy my Auntie walked her Westie with had dog ( mongrel) called Rex.

I know a man called Rex. He is an utter gentleman. He's the type of guy who makes everyone feel like they are the most interesting/amusing/gorgeous person in the world . We all love him. He is dapper and has the most amazing vintage racing car.

I would use the name.

fanjodisfunction · 13/04/2012 16:14

Ok so people who think its a dogs name, please give me examples of the dogs you know or know of called Rex.

The only Rex I have heard of is Rex Harrison and he is deffinitly not a dog.

I have never met a dog called rex, though i have met many cats named Felix but never associate it with a cats name, its just a name.

LilyBolero · 13/04/2012 15:23

It's a dog's name.

Also it means King, which I would be a bit dubious about using.

I love it, but used it for my cat as i didnt want to 'tempt fate' by saving it for a may-not-happen child. when pg with dd i did feel sad that we sidnt save it.

squoosh · 13/04/2012 14:47

Ah yes, that medieval English name Bangers. It means 'show me thine boobs' in early Saxon.

Due a revival I should think.

CelticPromise · 13/04/2012 14:45

I know a little Rex. It suits him. I like it a lot.

Pancakeflipper · 13/04/2012 14:44

I know how to flip pancakes Squoosh, that's what I know. My fav dog name for today is Rollo. Yesterday it was Bangers ( yes that is what he owner called him when we were in the wood). Bangers - is that a name also good for a child or a dinosaur?

nizlopi · 13/04/2012 14:44

I love the name Rex, its my Uncles name.

fanjodisfunction · 13/04/2012 14:43

I am thinking of adding it the list, hoping DH likes it.
