I really like it but what's the mumsnet verdict?

We used to have a hamster called Rex :o. But that does mean I like the name, though :o.

Bitofastate · 13/04/2012 19:18

sounds like a dog, sorry Sad

mintymellons · 13/04/2012 19:16

Love Rex. Had it on my list if DD2 had been a boy.

Think it's quirky and cool without being ridiculous. Go for it.

CharltonHairstyle · 13/04/2012 19:12

I LOVE that name!

CheerfulYank · 13/04/2012 19:11

Oh I looooooovvvve Rex. I'd like to use it as a nn for Frederick Alexander. (Long story) But our last name is Brick and Wrecks Brick is a bit much. Sigh.

Glad you've had positive reactions to it. It does sound very cool but it's not one for me, partly because to my ears it also sounds like 'wrecks'. If you're a cool dude, Rex would be a great name to have.

mum47 · 13/04/2012 17:44

I immediately thought of it as a dog's name - my friend had a black lab called Rex when we were growing up. But I looked at Locket's photo of her Rex, and I am coming round to it now. Thought good point by Stellan!

ScrambledSmegs · 13/04/2012 17:44

Oh, Rex is awesome. Makes me thing of Rex Harrison and other suave English gents.

Never met a dog called Rex. Most dogs round here have what I would describe as children's names, eg Luka, Milo, Harvey etc.

I also think it's a dogs' name.

Do you think teenagers will snigger when they realise it's sex-with-a-R or am I reading too much into it?

anniewoo · 13/04/2012 17:38

I just think of an alsatian dog

squoosh · 13/04/2012 17:37

Pancakeflipper I like the sound of your Sexy Rexy, 70+ you say? I find that's when Rexes are their prime.

My Sexy Rexy has a moustache Squoosh and he twirls it.

All Rex's need a cravat.

RnB · 13/04/2012 17:07

I have a Rex too
It is cool and unique without being weird. My son is 9 and LOVES his name. He is the only one in the school and loads of his friends are jealous Smile

Oh duchesse I really like Jean. Norman or Roger granted are not so cool.

squoosh · 13/04/2012 16:57

Lockets I had a peek at your Rex, he's gorgeous.

Being called Rex he's bound to grow up to be suave and sophisticated, he may even twirl his moustace.

NoHunIntended · 13/04/2012 16:56

It's a yes from me! Love it! I also love Tex, but DH said no!

duchesse · 13/04/2012 16:54

I think all those 1930s-1950s names are making a comeback. It's the next period to make a revival- the 1900-1920ish phase is already back. Can't ever see Norman, Jean or Roger becoming popular again though.

NettoSuperstar · 13/04/2012 16:52

Love it.

LilyBolero · 13/04/2012 16:51

Why is it funny? The OP asked if anyone knew of any dogs called Rex!

Lockets, I'm sure its a fab name for a boy, and if I knew your boy I'm sure I would be convinced he couldn't be called anything else, because names are like that, but I always think on these threads that if someone is asking, then they want to know your first impression of a name, and that is my first impression of the name Rex.

The same is true of Felix, but the Felixes I know really suit their names, aren't cat-like at all, and I don't think cat when I think of THEIR Felix name. Does that make sense?

fanjodisfunction · 13/04/2012 16:51

lockets I would love to, but DH would have to agree. I have a good long while to keep suggesting it, Ive only just fallen pg.
