There used to be a comic series about Rex the Wonder Dog. (Wiki says it was a 1950s series, but I'm sure I can remember it and I wasn't born till the 1960s.) I think that's why it became known as a dog's name. When I hear the name Rex I think "the Wonder Dog!" but anyone under 40 won't think that.

Anyway, Rex the Wonder Dog saved the world from being taken over by evil Martians, so that's pretty cool.

I once knew a sheepdog called Rex. Sorry, but I think of it as either a dog's name or an upper class character in Midsomer Murders.

To me it is a cat's name, I've owned plenty of Rex cats over the years. It also reminds me of the American man in Brideshead (I think he was a Rex).

It's not my style but it's not a bad name.

I love it. It suits all ages I think and is manly, strong, easy to spell. I wouldn't be influenced by dog names on the basis that these days dogs are given 'people' names so on that basis you'd not call a child Sam, Poppy, Lucy, Millie, Mollie, Charlie, Alfie, Archie etc, on the basis that if you hear these names being called in the park, you're just as likely to see a labrador responding, as you are a child.

I will do what I want flightly as it is my child, nothing wrong with Fox.

my husbands name means king also, meanings of names are nice but do not detract me from picking them or liking them, my daughters name means Help, but we get so many compliments on how beautiful it is.

My brother is called Alex, so no to that one. I dont like Max and Dexter is nice but I dont think its for me.

I really love Rex, I may discuss it with DH when he gets in from work. Last time we discussed Fox, which we both loved but we then moved to a road with Fox in the title.

We also like Lachlan due to Scottish roots but Rex in my mind is really pipping it to the post.

I love Rex! My twins have 'x' names and Rex was on the shortlist but my husband used the 'dog' argument as his veto. If you can't have Rex what about Max or Dexter or Lex? (as in Alex)
