Ewan or Euan?

I think we've finally found a name we like (that hasn't already been used by friends and family) for DC2 if they are a boy. The only problem is the spelling.

Ewan seems like the most common way to spell it, so hopefully avoiding too many instances of "how do you spell that?" as he grows up and into adulthood. However, it looks like E-wan to me, and I think it could be misread in a hurry as Evan.

Euan - would most people pronounce it properly? If it is pronounced properly will it automatically be spelt Ewan if they just hear it IYKWIM?

Opinions please.

Thanks

Euan is nicer to my eyes, but both are lovely.

Ewan

This name had to be binned for us as dh wanted EWan instead of my EUan.

I'd always go for Euan to be honest. We ended up with Murray but even that caused problems when after he was registered I decided Moray would be better.

Thanks. I think I'm overthinking it as I have a name that can be spelt one of three ways and am frequently asked to spell it when dealing with work or home admin type stuff. When growing up, some close relatives used to spell my name the wrong way and it used to irritate me (over-sensitive child!) so I'm trying to avoid the same situation for DC2.

DD is Orla and we eventually went with that spelling (rather then Orlaith / Orlagh) to avoid spelling and pronunciation issues in England.

My ds1 is Euan. I really like the name And personally preferred the look and spelling this way over Ewan. No one has ever had an issue with pronouncing his name after reading it.

I don't think e-wan when I see it. Ewan looks nicer than Euan, IMO

DH & I both liked this name. We had exactly this problem & couldn't decide. DS has a completely different name.

I'm no help to you at all.
