So DC5 is a girl.

DH really liked Mabel when DD3 was born last year, I wasn't sure. Its starting to grow on me.

Any other suggestions? With three girls we've completely run out of ideas!

PS DD's name is in my list! DS2 was going to be Florence Agnes or Agnes Florence (but no one ever likes Agnes except me!)

Clary · 15/04/2012 10:16

I loved Mabel so much, DH was dead set against it tho so no go.

DD has a similarly Victorian kitchenmaid name!

Other names like Mabel might be Constance, Florence, Edith, Elsie, Martha, Flora, Sybil, Rose.

mejon · 12/04/2012 22:16

I think it is lovely but then DD2 is Mabli which is the Welsh version.

BeattieBow · 12/04/2012 17:07

I was going to suggest Beatrice - I think it is lovely. I also like Polly.

WithACherryOnTop · 12/04/2012 17:01

I don't like it at all.It's ugly.

AlexanderSkarsgardIWould · 12/04/2012 16:21

Bruce Willis did just call his daughter Mable, yes.

Beans1977 · 12/04/2012 16:14

Mabel could be about to see a bit of a resurgence - didn't Bruce Willis just called his kid Mabel Ray Willis? I think that sounds kind of cute.

I can understand not wanting to use Harriet. If DS chooses to use Harry there will be a Harry and a Harriet.

ragged · 12/04/2012 16:04

I strongly dislike Mabel, sorry.
Your other suggestions would be okay by me if I had a family connection (which we do). So DC have great-grandies with names like Martha & Edith. I wouldn't go for them on their own.
Really don't see why you "can't" use Harriet. It's not like all your other DC have H names (& plenty of people would do a theme, anyway).

QuickLookBusy · 12/04/2012 16:03

I love Mabel and can imagine it being shortened to May or Belle when she was a teenager.

Not sure about Edith, but what about Elsie?

thatsnotmypineapple · 12/04/2012 15:56

I love it. I have a baby niece called Mabel, although my parents were not so keen when it was announced. A definite marmite name I think. One of your other DDs names is my DD's name.

Papyrus · 12/04/2012 15:54

I do love Martha Everlong, but wonder if its too close to Clara in sound?

DS is Henry, so can't use Harriet.

What are your thoughts on Edith (Edie)?

I don't know any teenagers with this name, only old ladies but I think it's gorgeous, DH vetoed it for my dds. I think it goes really well with your other daughters names and it might get shortened to May or Maisie, which I also love.

Sarcalogos · 12/04/2012 15:45

I can't imagine a teenage Mabel either. Although it sounds really cute for an under 5!

Another vote for Harriet, it goes well with your other names im(irrelevelant)o

FondleWithCare · 12/04/2012 15:41

Your other daughters have lovely names but I really hate Mabel, sorry.

I don't see Mabel as a cute baby name - I see it as a name they grow into

PS meant to add that Beatrice, Iris, Lucy and Clementine are other fave names of mine, a couple of which I have gone on to use for DD2

squoosh · 12/04/2012 15:34

There was a Mabel in our school in the 80's. Everyone was agog that she had what was then perceived to be such a 'frumpy' name. She wasn't particularly cool either so that didn't help.

I think it's a trendy name right now, not sure how it'll be perceived in 20 time.

Ktay · 12/04/2012 15:33

Jules Holland and Tracey Ullmann both have daughters called Mabel who are either in their teens or twenty-somethings. I can imagine them (based on little other than my perceptions of their parents, admittedly) carrying the name off quite well at that age. DD1 is Mabel but unfortunately for her, her parents aren't quite so cool...

Other DDs are Eliza, Annie and Clara.

I think what's putting me off slightly, is that I can see Mabel being cute for a baby or toddler, but would a teenage Mabel hate it. Anyone know a teenage Mabel?

Would love to use Grace or Rose, but stupidly have already used them as middle names.
