Not Ben, Ned or - er - Dick.

There are no others, are there? :(

benet /bennet ?

organiccarrotcake · 12/04/2012 09:07

Thanks everyone. I do love the name, it just feels a bit of a mouthful for a first name, I guess! But good advice - either use the name, find a NN that works or pick something else!

Back to the drawing board :)

People don't have to have nick names. If you like Benedict just stick with the full length version. I would never shorten someone's name if their parents don't.

Also agree that a nn can have nothing to do with the actual name. Both my dds have nns that are completely unassociated with their names.

I know a Benedict who doesn't have a nn if that helps.

Janoschi · 09/04/2012 22:56

Benedictavious. If it won't shorten, the only way is longer.

welovesausagedogs · 09/04/2012 22:39

Benjy
Ben
I know a Benedict who is 4 and everyone calls him Buddy.

BahHumPug · 09/04/2012 16:25

If you could have Ned you could probably stretch to Ted, but it is quite a stretch!

I agree with the others, if you can't find a nickname you like then choose another name. Unless you establish something early on, he will be Ben forever more. I don't know a single Benedict / Benjamin who doesn't go by this, other than perhaps a Benny / Benji stage when they are little.

Elenaki · 09/04/2012 14:23

Just call him Benedict if you're not keen on any nicknames! It is a lovely, distinctive name. Nicknames are all well and good, but imo there's def something to be said for celebrating full names, especially if they're as nice as that one.

Janoschi · 09/04/2012 14:14

Dix?

Maiziemonkey · 09/04/2012 14:12

Ennie?

BeaditAli · 09/04/2012 13:24

Love this name! Why not Ned?
B? I know a male 'B' and he is extremely handsome...... Really suits him. Real name is nothing as cool as Benedict!

Stellan · 09/04/2012 13:03

I think you'll just have to call him Benedict if you've ruled out all obvious nicknames.

doctordwt · 09/04/2012 13:00

If you're working this hard at trying to avoid a nickname that, err, sounds like it derives from the name, then maybe it isn't the name for you!

Maybe rethink?

SunflowersSmile · 09/04/2012 07:40

Lengthen it- Benedictine!

TheSockPuppet · 09/04/2012 03:24

kickass, that's true, my sons nickname is nothing to do with his first name, I call him freckles because I think his little freckles are really cute Blush

Whitershadeofpale · 09/04/2012 02:51

I've heard of a few known as Eggs!

TheDetective · 09/04/2012 01:43

Benji?

kickassangel · 09/04/2012 01:25

Nn don't have to be an abbreviation of the first name. So you could call him monkey face.
Love Benedict btw

StrawberryMojito · 09/04/2012 00:31

Nicky or Buddy?

Mspontipine · 09/04/2012 00:27

I mispelt Benedick in an English essay as Bendedick. Any good? Grin

Janoschi · 09/04/2012 00:24

Benno?

Janoschi · 09/04/2012 00:22

Nico?

Kaekae · 08/04/2012 23:51

Diccon.

BBQJuly · 08/04/2012 23:04

I suppose you could find "Ed" within the name but everyone will assume it's short for Edward (which properly, it is)

Bed
