Can't decide if I love it or not!

I think it sounds friendly and it has a very nice meaning (actually two nice meanings) to DH and I, but I also worry if it's a bit.... well... trailer trash!

Hoping it isn't because I do like it!

What do you all reckon?

Guess we won't take him to visit then!

no, say pooper-scooper in an exaggerated geordie accent- it's not a good sound

Janoschi · 08/04/2012 15:13

Does it sound nice in a Geordie accent? My BIL is a Geordie!

Reminds me of Twin Peaks- agent Cooper or Coop for short
For some strange reason I am hearing it with a Geordie accent in my head

Wallace · 08/04/2012 15:00

Nice. My sister's husband's brother's daughter just had a Cooper :)

Floggingmolly · 08/04/2012 14:58

A cooper is a barrel maker. To me it would be like calling my DS "Barista" or "Lawyer". Doesn't work.

That's what I'm wondering... would Cooper grow on me? I love the sound of it but it's really not a classic name and he'd stand out in a family of 'proper' names on his German side. Would expect a certain amount of horror from them! Trouble is, they live in the US (DH's mother is American) and I don't know how Cooper is perceived over there, especially in the New England / Bostonian intellectual circles they operate in.

My own family is nuts re names (my sisters and I have weird hippy ones) so no worries with them.

We already have a DD Robin, which we liked because it sounded friendly and warm. Cooper does have a similar warmth to it...

Robin & Cooper K***. ???

Manfred I know is a Marmite name! It's the name of a dear German uncle and as I like Manny and Fredo as everyday names, I'm happy to put it on the birth certificate.

Friends of ours have twins one of whom is called Cooper. I like it, not blown away by it, but when I heard one of them shorten it to Coop, all I could think was Chicken

LumpyLatimer · 08/04/2012 14:51

this is only permissible if named for the Greatest Man Currently On TV, aka Dr Sheldon Cooper.

Otherwise, NO.

WithACherryOnTop · 08/04/2012 14:46

Thinking about it some more,I think it's a name that would grow on me,if the child suited his name. It has potential.

Manfred is incredibly bad as anything other than a middle name.

cece · 08/04/2012 14:42

Dreadful IMO. Sorry.

i like it, for the same reason as boxoftricks nice dr in private practise :) its fine depending on your surname :)

oh makes me think of mini coopers as well! but my boys love mini coopers so that could be a bonus for a boy :)

WithACherryOnTop · 08/04/2012 14:41

I don't like it,though I generally love American style names like that. It#s much better than Manfred though.

Janoschi · 08/04/2012 14:34

That sounds very anti-girl - ooops! I meant after getting a nice boys name sorted, it'll turn out to be useless. [bublush]

Okay, so I'll suggest Manfred Cooper K*** to my DH, little Fredo for short. I do like it. Thanks for the help! Knowing our luck we'll now get another girl!

Pooper (sorry)

dreamingbohemian · 08/04/2012 13:52

I have an (American) cousin named Cooper -- it's very popular in parts of the US, so I'm not that keen on it!

Yes to Fredo Smile

C0smos · 08/04/2012 13:50

I like it but it does make me think of Marissa Cooper in the OC whose nickname was Pooper Scooper!

Janoschi · 08/04/2012 13:45

Middle name is an idea....

Manfred Cooper K***.

Hmm....

Janoschi · 08/04/2012 10:39

Boy.

I'm really not a surname as forename type, which could be why I'm struggling a bit with how people might perceive it.

Other option is Manfred (nn either Manni or Fredo). Named for DH's great uncle.

For a girl we have:

Rixt
Truda

Boy or girl? I know a male one but he's American.

Methe · 08/04/2012 09:31

It's the only surname-as-a-first-name name that I like but I don't think i'd ever have the guts to use it.
