as the title suggests really! What is your preferred choice? Our surname is one syllable starting with B, and we have DS Alexander James. DD is due in 2 weeks.... Thanks!

India Florence is lovely but it is two places in the world. Matilda is just a name, but I think it's a bit archaic and not very nice sounding alliteratively... I would go for India. Have you thought of 'Indigo?' Indigo Florence sounds nice!! xx

Psammead · 15/04/2012 10:06

I prefer Matilda Smile

2sugarsandadog · 15/04/2012 06:08

LOL at Sanuk! I do like Tilly, not so much Matilda. Think India Hicks was so called because here grandfather was the last viceroy of India - might be a bit difficult to justify otherwise, unless she was conceived there! But hell what do I know - names don't need justifying anyway ....

NotGoingOut17 · 14/04/2012 23:21

Matilda, i know someone said it will date soon - I think India already has dated, bit 1990's. Matilda is definitely more in keeping with your son's name - as someone said.

And Matilda is a classic name that has been around for centuries so not sure how it can date, it's hardly a fad...

Pinkzoo · 13/04/2012 17:10

Love both Matilda and florence but dislike India.

shushpenfold · 13/04/2012 17:08

2 lovely combos - already having a Tilly (who was nearly Florence) I would now chose something different...as the others have said, there are blinking loads of them!!!

Matilda or Millicent are lovely. India isn't.

GoGoBananas · 11/04/2012 21:56

Matilda is beautiful. We have one and have never met another in 5 years. And it's actually going down in popularity. Shouldn't date either, we've had them in our family for hundreds of years. It's an old name.

bobbledunk · 11/04/2012 21:51

Matilda Florence is beautiful, love MatildaSmile

Please read whole post.

Absolutely nothing, as far as I know - never been there.

Gave our children Scandi names because of our connections there. But we are often asked WHY. It helps to have a story.

Without a story it sounds like Brooklyn to me.

That's only my opinion. It has a nice sound - but one of Princess Wales bridesmaids had it because her dad was the ambassador/something out there.

I'd really keep away from India unless you have a story for her when she's asked why she was named after the country

I know one India and it was a nod to her cultural heritage.

Otherwise its a bit naff for me.

Florence is beautiful and Matilda is fine.

WineOhWhy · 11/04/2012 20:02

I would have said Matilda until you said you are on Oz. Not sure given Waltzing Matilda.

Florence India sounds perfect

StyleGuile · 11/04/2012 19:57

We have both a Matilda (4) and a Florence (13) and I still love both names. I don't know of another Matilda or another Flo in either of their schools. Matilda is known as Mouse, Mousie or "Tilds", Florence is Flo, Flossie, Flossarina - lots of different affectionate names for them both!

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 19:01

We've picked Matilda. Not heard of any around here. Yet!!

CherryBlossom27 · 11/04/2012 11:37

I also tried to persuade DH to add Verona to the short list but he vetoed it :(

CherryBlossom27 · 11/04/2012 11:36

I love Florence, I had it on a short list but had a boy! I think I'd have it as a first name and Matilda as a middle name.

I don't think everyone would realise, but I think having Florence and India would be too many 'place names'. Florence is a beautiful city and I love anything Italian :)

CheshireDing · 10/04/2012 21:54

Prefer Matilda but becoming popular I think.

Our friend lives in Melbourne and they have a Matilda.

Do like Miranda though.

Debs3013 · 10/04/2012 15:29

My vote would be for Matilda but I'm biased - my dear old Nan was Florence Matilda Smile

mimimomma · 09/04/2012 16:50

I like India Florence out of the two- also like Indira or Indy as other options. Good luck!
