Jacob (nn Coby) or Caleb (nn Cal)

Hello, please let me know which name you prefer. As Jacob is very popular right now I think I'd like to call him Coby as a nn. Cal will be his nickname if he's Caleb as his brother's name is pretty close in sound. Thanks

Hi name was first Caleb Arran which was too similar to his brother's name of Kaiden. then his second name was Jacob David (D being his dad's name). Those names are both registered on his birth certificate. The second one is now his legal name. However with his deed poll he will be Keagan Jacob David _. Hope that makes more sense

I don't understand about the deed poll thing. Has your son's birth already been registered? You say 'won't be' on the birth certificate which sounds as if the certificate hasn't been issued, so what's the problem with using your chosen name? Sorry if I'm missing something.

Leena78 · 18/04/2012 12:42

We have decided to go with Keagan as it just suits him so well and seems to have clicked into place with DH and I. Unfortunately this name won't be on his birth certificate though and I will need a deed poll which is worrying me a bit. I know it's easy to get a deed poll and I know a good company to get it from who will also keep a record of it forever but I just hope this doesn't cause complications in the future.

Why name him Jacob if you then call him Coby - just call him Coby if that is what you like.

Caleb is fine too. I love Quin (short for Quentin) and Nathan (Nathaniel).

DottieRose · 18/04/2012 12:11

Love Caleb but not nn Cal!

Leena78 · 18/04/2012 11:15

We have decided on Keagan and we both just feel it clicks. I'm very happy with it but am having second thoughts again as I'm worried about the deed poll causing him any unnecessary hassle in his future? Mathanxiety I love your choices by the way, Quin, Noah, Ethan and Nathan were on our list.

How about
Quinn
Logan
Noah
Dylan
Landon
Ethan
Nathan
Owen
Evan

mathanxiety · 09/04/2012 20:35

Sounds like a girl's name to me, short for Kimberley.

Leena78 · 08/04/2012 11:41

Oh, my other half has had enough of me but he also understands where I'm coming from. We both love Caleb but think it's too similar which is the main issue. I like Jacob but it's so so popular. Never mind the twilight thing. Robert Patterson also plays a Jacob in Water for Elephants and Ryan Gosling plays a Jacob in Crazy Stupid Love which has just come out. I am hearing it everywhere and both those actors are huge heart throbs haha. Oh well.

My husband and I can only agree on one other name and that is Kimi!

What do you think?

Thanks everyone. Yes, In a big pickle over this.

How about Colby?

raindroprhyme · 07/04/2012 21:02

our Caleb also gets CJ as middle name is James. but i hate it.

raindroprhyme · 07/04/2012 21:00

we have a Caleb he gets called Cabe for short/nickname by brothers and school mates. Coby is lovely

Anonymumous · 07/04/2012 20:57

Your other half Blush

Anonymumous · 07/04/2012 20:56

I know you from BabyCentre!!! Wink I can't believe you're still in such a pickle over this - you must be driving yourself nuts by now. What does your other other think about it all?

sweetkitty · 07/04/2012 20:43

I have a Jacob so a bit biased Grin I only know one more (bit annoyed about the Twilight thing), he gets Coby or Jacoby as a nn don't know why it got shortened that way and not Jake.

I also know a Caleb known as Cale.

Go with Jacob mine is fab Grin

mathanxiety · 07/04/2012 20:41

I agree that Kaiden and Caleb are too similar.

How about Callum, nn Cal?

Or Hamish? Hamish and James are versions of the same name -- they all derive from Jacob.

Leena78 · 07/04/2012 20:34

Normally I would never shorten Caleb as it's a lovely name in itself but I feel that I might have to if his brother's name is Kaiden. Very alike imo

WantAnOrange · 07/04/2012 20:28

I have a Caleb, our last name begins with J so some family members call him CJ. I have never really felt the need to shorten it though as it's just not that long.

Kaiden and Caleb sounds good to me.

Leena78 · 07/04/2012 20:09

I think Kaiden and Caleb are much more samey than Kaiden and Coby don't you think

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/04/2012 19:10

Kaiden and Cobey too samey imho. But Kaiden and Cal sounds like that children's comedy that used to be on - it was called something like Keenan and Kal iirc.

DialMforMummy · 07/04/2012 19:03

Coby is a name, why don't you just call him that?
I love Caleb but dislike Jacob.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 07/04/2012 18:56

I like both, we have a Kaden and both of those names were also on our list when we had him. Another one on our list then was Cohen.

I'd go with Jacob, love Coby :)

FondleWithCare · 07/04/2012 18:52

Jacob is nicer but if you're worried about popularity I would go with Jacoby. Or you could just call him Coby as a full name.

Jess850 · 07/04/2012 18:11

I love both Jacob and Caleb but I think Jacob edges it for me [busmile]
