Is this pregnancy hormones? Woody

I was in our local park last week and I heard a mum shout Woody to her son. I really like it but I'm not sure if this is me going a bit crazy. I am also not sure if he would be teased as a teenager with Woody have you got wood!

What are your thoughts? Our other name is Bert/Bertie.

Back away from Woody. Fine as a nn, but no way a first name.

Those hormones are buggers.

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 05/04/2012 14:31

It's the hormones. It's awful.

Hmmm might put Delilah back in the mix...

. Don't see the problem with wood / hard-on link. Nobody's fussed if they meet someone called Dick are they? And William has never gone out of fashion because it shortens to Willy...?

RetroMum1 · 05/04/2012 14:21

WildRumpus my DS's best friend is called Delilah and no one has ever bat an eye at her name or even mentioned it, it really suits her. Maybe you could use it for this one!

Thanks for all the honest comments, that was my concern. It is really cool nickname and cute for littl man but does a 30 year old man want to have shouted across the pub "Woody what do you want to drink?"! we are in SE London so there re a lot of different names in use but I wasn't sure if is was a bit far out.

yep it's slang for a hard on don't go there. ever

KatAndKit · 05/04/2012 14:15

Definitely not Woody as his real name! Unless you plan on producing the entire cast of Toy Story and the next one will be called Buzz....

If you like it as a nickname that's fair enough but it's not fair to saddle a child with Woody as their actual legal name.

WildRumpus · 05/04/2012 14:15

Good to be aware of the effect crazy pregnancy hormones can have on your name preferences though. I really, really, really liked the name Delilah during 2nd pregnancy. Poor DH was having a hard job convincing me not to consign our child to a lifetime of bad Tom Jones imitations. Probably for the best that baby turned out to be a boy. This time round I have allowed DH to choose name.

I like Woody too. Maybe you could give a longer name like Edward and use Woody as a nn if you are unsure?

Bert/Bertie is also lovely though. I marginally prefer that one, but I think both names are a bit quirky and original.

scottishmummy · 05/04/2012 14:13

woody isn't that slang for an erection?
hate woody
it's a name forvquinoa munching trying to hard parents.oh in fact a media Luvvie like Zoe ball

WildRumpus · 05/04/2012 14:10

Zoe Ball has a Woody. I quite like it. I wouldn't worry about nicknames. Children can be nasty little blighters in the playground and will find ways to pick on some kids regardless of their name. He may even be quite proud of the wood association as a teenager...?
