I love Ezra but in a lot of other countries it is a girl's name. Not sure if that bothers you, just making you aware.

I like Jasper and Arthur from your list.

gafhyb · 08/04/2012 19:31

Congratulations

Like Benedict

Favourite is Ezra

Dislike Jasper and Bede

BBQJuly · 08/04/2012 15:00

Congratulations!

My favourites from the list are Benedict and Edmund.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2012 23:23

Congratulations.

Jasper - ok
Benedict - lovely
Rafferty - don't like
Bede - absolutely terrible
Arthur - don't like
Edmund - love it
Ezra - bloody awful

Edmund tops for me.

LeBeauReve · 06/04/2012 21:41

LOVE Ezra! LOVE!

Can't stand Arthur, sorry to anyone who has one, but I just think it SUCH an old man's name, and I'm pretty sure no 15 year old boy would want to be called Arthur.

baskingseals · 06/04/2012 07:51

oooh Love Benedict

many many congratulations Smile

oikopolis · 05/04/2012 15:59

Jasper - quite like
Benedict - lovely, as long as you're not American or going to live in America. Benedict Arnold is the name of a v famous traitor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benedict_Arnold and apparently that's who they associate the name with
Rafferty - bit too Jude Law for me
Bede - no
Arthur - ok
Edmund - ok
Ezra - like

daffodilyellow · 05/04/2012 15:53

Congratulations. Ofthose, I like Jasper, Benedict and Arthur, with Arthur being my fave

TheSockPuppet · 05/04/2012 15:37

I'm really sorry but I don't like any of them Blush but everyone has different tastes and I'm definitely the minority in this thread.

How would you feel about the nicknames that he may be given though? Art, Ben, etc? I always think about whether I'd hate the nickname and would always be correcting people in annoyance.

Congratulations on your little one Smile

Iambaboon · 05/04/2012 15:34

Anything except bede, which is just a bit too venerable

Huge congratulations on your new baby Smile

Sorry, but Ezra sounds like a wizened and shrivelled old man to me so would probably suit a baby

Jasper, Benedict, Arthur and Edmund I like.

Not keen on Bede. Has anyone ever heard of a Bede apart from the Venomous Venerable Bede?

redrubyshoes · 05/04/2012 15:17

Benedict or Jasper. I love both.

welovesausagedogs · 05/04/2012 15:14

My favourites are Arthur and Rafferty

MrsKitty · 05/04/2012 15:12

Ezra is my favourite on your list, followed by Benedict or Edmund.

mathanxiety · 05/04/2012 14:54

I agree about Rafferty. I much prefer Raftery, name of a famous old Irish poet.

pixiestix · 05/04/2012 14:46

I love Bede - really underused but not pretentious at all imo.

Congratulations!

PinkPolkaDots · 05/04/2012 14:26

Congratulations!
From your list like:

Jasper, Rafferty & Ezra.
But I think Ezra wins my vote!
Sounds so manly and glamorous - like an old hollywood actor or something!

RubyLovesMayMay · 05/04/2012 13:26

OP my boy is due on the 24th April. No one in RL knows this yet but I've we've decided to call our son Ezra, I love it. Its a simple name yet not too common.

You've made me all excited now Grin

Congratulations Thanks

happybigbump · 05/04/2012 13:17

"Why on earth do people like Rafferty "

Thankfully we all have different tastes Smile.

PercyFilth · 05/04/2012 13:14

Why on earth do people like Rafferty Shock

It is a surname, and not a particularly nice one at that. Overtones of riff-raff, rackety, raggedy. How could anyone foist that on their child, it's horrible.

vitaminC · 05/04/2012 12:10

I love Arthur, Edmund and Ezra. Benedict is OK, but not keen on the pope, so wouldn't use it. Jasper and Rafferty sound pretentious, IMO.

I've never seen or heard Bede before? How is it pronounced? Bed? Beady? Bead?

Momdeguerre · 05/04/2012 12:04

Jasper - Ok
Benedict - Ok, I prefer Barnaby or Barnabus
Rafferty - Nice
Bede - Not keen
Arthur -Love
Edmund - Ok, prefer Edward or Ernest
Ezra - Love

HandMadeTail · 05/04/2012 11:43

They are all great. My least favourite is Arthur. I love Bede because of the historic associations, but can imagine he may have problems explaining it to people. (stil, it doesn't take long to spell it out, does it? B-E-D-E!)

Name out of a hat? Or throw a dice? Because then you may know exactly how you feel in that second that the choice is made for you. Iykwim

Congratulations, btw.

aprilfoolsbaby · 05/04/2012 11:36

I can't believe all the lovely comments about our name short list. Just got home from the hospital, going to have a nice bath and some treats from the bakers for lunch - then I'm going to have a good look at our boy and ponder his name x thanks again for all your comments and opinions (you've all been very gentle)
