Was falling asleep last night when this name came to me. I have no idea where it came from. We had been considering Elodie as a name, but Eleri just seems nicer to me.

Any views on it?

Ah yes, missed that one. Thankyou :)

mejon · 05/04/2012 22:53

See my previous post AKMD Grin!

AKMD · 05/04/2012 22:38

Did no one else immediatwly think 'Eleri celery'? Just me then...

wearymum200 · 05/04/2012 21:20

Eggsits you need Michael Rosen's Sonsense Nongs CD , more in the same vein have my 2 laughing their heads off.

As for Eleri, I think it's lovely, but it will be mispronounced unless you live in Wales!

mejon · 05/04/2012 21:15

It is my middle name and I am of a certain age Blush. There were quite a few in school but it isn't as common nowadays. I didn't like it much growing up but don't mind it now though I'm glad my mother didn't get her way as she wanted to use it as a first name.

Please do not pronounce it to rhyme with celery .

It is El-eh-ree.

hattifattner · 05/04/2012 17:46

eggsits ....shall I hum it? Grin I think its an original tune.

SO Im no musician, but I picked out the tune Using this virtual keyboard....

I may well have started on the completely wrong note Blush, but....

Sorry for the hijack OP, but Ellery will always be the subject of a Scouty song for me. I do like the name though, if its any help Grin. Its a real lads name to me. But possibly because of visions of a youngster running wild and eating eels.

pixiestix · 05/04/2012 14:51

Gorgeous, but please, please pronounce it correctly!

minipie · 05/04/2012 14:12

I think it's a lovely name. But are you Welsh/have Welsh family/live in Wales?

If not, I wonder if it might be a bit odd to use such a Welsh name?

Eggsits · 05/04/2012 13:53

Hatti What tune is that sung to?

Love it!

doctordwt · 05/04/2012 13:43

Oh dear.

hattifattner · 05/04/2012 11:36

Eggsits · 05/04/2012 11:35

I immediately thought of Ellery Hanley too.

It is a nice name though.

CatPussWithACrownOfThorns · 05/04/2012 11:26

It's lovely, but I agree it has to be said properly. (elairy)
How about Seren. That's my favourite.

dreamingofsun · 05/04/2012 11:20

i thought it was a boys name? eleri hanley is/was a rugby player.

spiderlight · 05/04/2012 11:01

I really like it, but I agree that if you use the spelling Eleri, it's definitely pronounced E-LAIR-y. I'm in Wales and I only know one.

ViviPru · 05/04/2012 09:05

I love the nn Ri - one of my best friends nn is Ree and I love it.

CadburysHeaveEgg · 05/04/2012 00:01

I love the name Eleri, mainly from knowing a lovely lady by that name.

bronze · 04/04/2012 23:55

It was top of my list for dd, shes Nia instead

Please though its El-Lair-y (or possible E-lerry)

NOT Ellery

doctordwt · 04/04/2012 23:44

Oh please if you use it don't pronounce it Ellery!

It's El-AIR-y. Ellery isn't an alternative, it's wrong!

It reminds me of that Harry Enfield sketch where Wayne Slob keeps calling Naomi Campbell 'Noomi' Grin

It's THAT wrong.

Spell it Ellery?

SerenityNOT · 04/04/2012 18:40

How beautiful. Never heard of it. Beautiful nevertheless. Hope it doesn't rhyme with your surname though - that would be weird.

SecretNutellaFix · 04/04/2012 18:34

that's ok.

Smile
alexpolismum · 04/04/2012 18:30

Nutella - Ah, I see. Read it wrong, sorry.

PinsAndNoodles · 04/04/2012 18:27

I know an Ellerie. Don't know if that's a known spelling?

SecretNutellaFix · 04/04/2012 18:23

Alexpolis- I was just using that as a way of saying it isn't hugely popular at the moment.

Welsh names that were usual when I was in school for example

Llinos
Heledd
Nerys
Eleri
Sian
Catrin
Haf
Angharad
Rhiannon
Bethan
Anwen
Ceri
Lowri

I have only heard of 1 Bethan, 1 Ceri, 1 Catrin, 1 Rhian, 1 Sian in the past 5 years or so. On the other hand I have heard of more than a few

Mali
Carys/ Cerys
Ffion
Seren
Nia
Celyn
Elin

DogEared · 04/04/2012 18:22

The correct pronounciation is El-Lair-y or, in some parts of Wales, E-lerry. It is never Ellery.
