But we ended up naming DD Elizabeth as a compromise as DH hated all my choices.

Sooo, does anyone have a suggestion as to which of the 1000s of existing nicknames (or even a made up one) I can use for her which will satisfy my longing for a bit more of a boho-feeling name?

Lilla is a nn for an Elizabeth I know.

deliakate · 08/04/2012 14:56

Thanks, I think Libby is great actually. Not too popular, but not too far removed from Elizabeth.

Betty (think Betty Boo) or even Betty Boo then shorten to Boo, or Libby.

abbypumpkin · 06/04/2012 21:13

Love Libby and given you liked the name liberty that seems like an obvious choice

TidyDancer · 06/04/2012 17:08

I think Libby is probably the nicest of the NNs. Like someone else said, does your DD have a middle name that could be used?

If it's any consolation, I do think Elizabeth is the prettiest name amongst the ones you considered. It's a beautiful classic.

What about Bebe? (i.e. beebee)

or Zaza Grin

I've also heard Blossom as a nickname for an Elizabeth. Not traditional, but still lovely.

grewsum · 04/04/2012 21:13

does she have a middle name that you could use a version of as a nn ? could you use her initials to create a nn ? i know an Angelina whose middle names are Catherine Eve whose nn is Ace .
you mentioned in your thread title the name damson how about plum or peach as a pet name or insteadof mercy use merry as a diminutive pet form

deliakate · 04/04/2012 19:09

So sweet, grewsum. I used to call her Pixie since she was born actually, how funny.

LOL. Tess is interesting - I'm a massive Hardy fan. But is that too far removed from Elizabeth??

Queenie definitely isn't ethereal. Pub landlady circa 1872

deliakate · 04/04/2012 16:49

Bea is about the one I love the most. I already changed her name a couple of weeks after she was born, so if I introduce a nn that's so uncommon, ppl will think I'm changing it again..... maybe I'll just phase it in slowly.

Not sure abt Queenie - although it may suit her in time. Just not very ethereal sounding, which is what I love in a name.

Liking the suggestions so far inc Queenie.
How about Bea or Liv?

BellaOfTheBalls · 04/04/2012 15:28

P.S. I also love PP's suggestion of Queenie!

At least Elizabeth has got SO much potential for nns.

I'm loving minipie's suggestion of Queenie - not so 'boho' I suppose, marking a Diamond Jubilee baby (Is your DD a 2012 vintage?) but, and I am biased, Queenie becomes 'Q' which is very cool and super quirky.

As I've muttered elsewhere, my grandmother was known as Queenie as she was apparently a rather assertive little girl. Her given name was the rather lovely but 'cool' in a different way, Frances. Queenie became 'Q' which my own Dd wishes we'd given her as a supercool but 'with family connections' middle name instead of, you quessed it, Elizabeth.

And so, to sum up, my offering is 'Q' because, being an 'assertive little girl' in the early years of the C21st is seen as something to celebrate rather than my granny's experience at the beginning of the C20th.

Over the years I've taught Elizabeths who were known as Lilly, Beth and Eliza.

Also Liza - as in Liza Minelli and Lissa as in 'Me-lissa'
