Anyone know an older Bertie?

Ds2 is due tomorrow Grin and we STILL don't have a name!

I love Bertie and it is what the bump has been called. Due to our surname we can't have Albert and we don't like any of the other variations of long names for Bertie. I just wondered if anyone knows of any older Bertie's and how well the name suits them through teenage years etc.

Nope sorry I just don't like it. Have joked to DH that we might go for Egbert if he's born this weekend!

Failing a longer name, go for Bertie, he can always be Bert which is pretty cool.

I know one that's 24 and he is probably one of the "coolest" most popular people u know. He doesn't have a "proper" name either

Yes, lovely chap, bit silly but has a lovely butler that takes care of things when he gets in a fix. Grin

What about Bertram, that's a great name?

But I don't really know why you can't just use Bertie. I have a so-called nickname on my birth certificate and it's fine. Lots of folk did that in the 1900-1940s so it's a fairly traditional thing to do to. The obsession with 'proper names' seems a new phenomenon to me.

Yes, if you don't like any longer versions of Bertie just call him Bertie. Despite what some posters would have you believe, it isn't illegal and he won't be scarred for life. :)

(still love Bertram though)

Yes snapsnap me too. I didn't want to mention that vile man though. Don't think there'll be too many baby Berties born in Ireland in the next generation or 5....except to some of the party faithful, the very, very, very faithful.

But a little English Bertie, it's nice.

Maggie has a similar issue for me. I absolutely love the name but mentally I add Thatcher to it and it's bloody RUINED.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm really trying to like a long version but not quite there! I think if we go for Bertie he will just be Bertie! Incidentally my DH has a nickname of a name that is very uncommon for our generation and it has only ever been a positive thing.

All we need now is a baby.... Wink
