Something 'cutesy' but uncommon

MarieFromStMoritz · 02/04/2012 05:46

I have always loved names like Daisy, Poppy, Molly, Lily, etc. However I want something slightly more unusual for our DD. Does anybody have any suggestions, please? Thanks.

Matilda, nn Tillie or Tilda
Katherine, nn Kitty
Margaret, nn Maggie
Elizabeth, nn Lizzie, Betty, Betsy, Bette, Libby
Letitia, nn Lettie
Charlotte, nn Lottie, Charley
Abigail nn Abby, Gail
Alexandra nn Ally, Alex, Alix
Theadora nn Thea, Dora, Dory
Annabel nn Anna, Annie, Belle
Rosemary nn Rosie, Romy, Rose

You could choose a more dignified name and use a nice nn, then when she grows older she could choose...

SilkStalkings, our surname is very long and very stern sounding. Which is probably one reason why I am looking for something pretty and cutesy, to balance it out.

Actually, talking of fanjo names, I think Fanny is a beautiful name. Very twenties.

Yummymummybee, is that you?! Grin

SilkStalkings · 02/04/2012 23:02

DoctorDWT - are yours all nicknames for fanjo?Grin Just wondered, given your MN name, if you are a real doctor you probably hear a lot of them.

cutesy may cut it when a widdle baby or toddler

but do you purposefully want to chose cutsey name that one has to grow into

the words unusual associated with baby names always make me think oh dear god..i then expect badly spelt/obvious or just try too hard

out of interest why do you want a cutsey name
do you instinctively think girls get cutesy names, as opposed to non cutesy?

How about a bit of alliteration for cuteness? What does your surname begin with?

kaymondo · 02/04/2012 16:18

We're thinking about Elspeth nn Elsie. Really like Nancy too.

Sorry to those who've suggested it but mimi always sounds like a pet name for someone's fanjo to me (which is why we told DMIL that she couldn't be called that instead of nana!)

OriginalJamie · 02/04/2012 16:15

I like Connie as well

OriginalJamie · 02/04/2012 16:15

Betty
Cassie
Sylvie
Callie

But the reason I like these is because they all (except Sylvie) have a more grown up variant. Habe you considered that a teenager or middle aged woman might not want a babyish name

pixie ?
not to my personal taste but certainly fulfils your cutesy but not popular brief
