Names like Simon

28 weeks with DS1. Simon is the only name I like. Well, I like others, but don't want a 'several in the class' name. I've only taught two Simons in 12 years, so I'm guessing it can't be that common.

Anyway, I feel like I need a few more on the shortlist to discuss with DH. Any ideas?

I meant Pete! Sad
Also really like Christian and not so sure it would get shortened as easily as Christopher! Grin

I love the name Simon too!

Of the ones I know / have known, they have had brothers called Daniel, Zac, and Drew.

snice · 01/04/2012 23:39

careful of initials if using Simon Alfred- you wouldn't want SAD or SAP or SAG

nooka · 01/04/2012 23:37

I think that Simon Alfred works well (assuming your dh likes both names of course!). My dd is named after two of her great grandmothers and really likes the connection.

ilovemybum · 01/04/2012 23:12

My dad is Simon John :)

winkle2 · 01/04/2012 22:43

Simon I'd lovely.

I'm not keen on Alfred but I think it's such a lovely idea to honour your grandfather.

:)

Peter, Robert, Richard, David, Geoffrey, Michael.

It is a nice name. It has gone out of fashion but is still in use. Agree with Edith about Nicholas, and Timothy and Paul for that matter. Also Andrew. I think Simon Alfred goes quite well together.

BlueEyeshadow · 01/04/2012 18:57

DS2 is Simon and we get lots of people saying what a nice name. :)

belindarose · 01/04/2012 18:53

Can't have Greg or Peter as we have really close cousins with those names. Do like them though.

Gregory or Peter fit the bill and sound nicer imo, and have pleasanter shortenings.

DH and I both have cousins called Simon, which is my only reservation I suppose, but as we won't look like we're favouring anyone in particular it'll probably be okay!

So, as you're here (and thanks, by the way), I'd like to use my beloved grandad's name as the middle name. He died last year at the age of 95 and was a remarkable, inspirational man. He had 21 great granddaughters and this is the first boy. My grandma is still alive and kicking (almost literally). The name is Alfred. I don't actually like it much (he was always Alf) but I'd just like his name to be carried on. What do you think?

I know a Simon with a brother Damon

ripsishere · 01/04/2012 18:15

Simon is a great name, not quite as great as Duncan obviously and a close second runner to Gavin and Adrian.
Seriously, Simon is fantastic. I don't know any of my DDs age - almost 11.

BlueAndRedMakePurple · 01/04/2012 18:15

My dh is Simon. He thinks it's a fab name Grin

Simon is lovely. Classic, manly sounding but not widely used these days! Great choice!
