Soup dragon ...I used the wrong phrase ...I appologise .Smile

Btw I say bath .

SoupDragon · 31/03/2012 13:03

"Suppose it depends if you have an accent or not ."

Precisely. :) I'm not pronouncing it wrong, I'm pronouncing it differently to you - it's the whole barth/bath argument :)

nickelhasababy · 31/03/2012 12:47

i had heard very northern people (lancashire) say it al-anna

droves · 31/03/2012 12:47

Now I'm worried have I been pronouncing my dds name wrongly for 16 years !

Confused
trikken · 31/03/2012 12:38

we'd say it (alana) as alaaaana. sort of an 'aah' sound in the middle.

droves · 31/03/2012 12:37

Ah ...I see .

I think you would need to like how the name is pronounced ,where you live , rather than how it looks .

One of those names above is my dd2 s name ....and I've never heard it pronounced with an r ... Except by my lovely friend who is from middle England ...Blush and I keep correcting her !

nickelhasababy · 31/03/2012 12:31

( droves it's more alahna for alana, with a long a - like the southern grass)

nickelhasababy · 31/03/2012 12:30

I would say Elena , too.

Anonymumous · 31/03/2012 12:28

I say tomayto, you say tomarto...

Personally I've never heard of 'Alarna' as a spelling for this name. And Alana is pronounced 'Al-ar-na' round here.

droves · 31/03/2012 12:21

Suppose it depends if you have an accent or not .

SoupDragon · 31/03/2012 11:36

I'm not pronouncing it wrongly.

droves · 31/03/2012 11:32

So if it doesn't need an r ,why pronounce it wrongly with an r then ?

SoupDragon · 31/03/2012 11:08

Alanis Morrisette? No R there.
Lady Gaga? No r there.

SoupDragon · 31/03/2012 11:07

It doesn't need an R in it Hmm

droves · 31/03/2012 11:01

Greenfly ,No it's not ....it does not have an r in it . Confused.

Alarna would be pronounced Alarna .

GreenDragonfly · 31/03/2012 10:55

Elena.

Agree with SoupDragon, Alana is pronounced Alarna.

droves · 31/03/2012 10:54

Elena Is pronounced E-le-na

Alana is pronounced Alan-a

Alannah is pronounced al-Ann-ah

Alayna is pronounced a-lay- na

All very pretty names IMO

SoupDragon · 31/03/2012 10:46

Elena.

Alana would be Alarna to me.

Laambkins · 31/03/2012 10:45

Alana. I love this name

Kayzr · 31/03/2012 10:44

Alana. There is one in DS1s class.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 31/03/2012 10:43

I have a friend with this pronunciation and she spells it Alaina. She's never had any problems with others mispronouncing it either. Lovely name.

winkle2 · 31/03/2012 10:39

Yes that's what I mean uh-lay-na! I love A names.

OP posts:
Eglu · 31/03/2012 10:24

I think putting a y in would definitely help.

FondleWithCare · 31/03/2012 10:21

My friend Elena pronounces it as uh-lay-na rather than a-lay-na. Spelling it Alayna could work well though.
