What are your thoughts on the name Claudia?

We already have a DD Isabella, and I rather think Claudia goes well with it. What do people think, and what suggestions for a second name?

Also do you know any Claudias? I don't, which also appeals as I think its relatively underused.

TIA

It really depends on how you feel about the nn Claude, which is how it would be shortened, especially as she got older.

Have name-changed for this, as I don't want to out myself by using my usual MN name. My name is Claudia (I'm late 30s). I have only ever known 1 other in my life, so it certainly hasn't been common to date. I have only ever had positive comments about it, and I have to say I really like it (is that big-headed??). The Latin definition has never been an issue, so don't think you should worry about that. My middle name is Jane (as is the other Claudia I know). Congratulations - with a name like that she's bound to be gorgeous Grin

AvengingGerbil · 27/06/2012 20:28

And congratulations on your new arrival!

AvengingGerbil · 27/06/2012 20:27

I'm going to call my next cat Clawd-yer! (But it is a good name for humans too.)

Love it love it love it!
Claudia is a lovely name, and not a popular one at the moment. Go for it.

SleepyFergus · 27/06/2012 14:07

Just picking up on this (I'm the OP)....we had a baby girl yesterday and went for the name Claudia in the end, so thanks to all for the mainly positive feedback! Still trying to decide on middle names but reckon something will fall into place soon. Smile

Go Claudia Jean - CJ from THe West Wing . V cool

BeaditAli · 09/04/2012 15:27

Oh I like the older post suggesting Claudia Alice!
Very gorgeous names..... Both of them but DH won't go for Claudia and my name is the longer version of Alice so if we ever needed a name for A DD I'll no doubt be on here quite frequently [bugrin]

CPtart · 09/04/2012 15:10

I know two, a 9 year old and a 2 year old.

stclair · 09/04/2012 14:36

I have a 2 year old Claudia (pronounced Cloud-ia). It suits her well, she is my little Cloud.

CheshireDing · 06/04/2012 23:55

Great name and she will probably be the only one in her class, which would appeal to me.

No idea why but these are two I thought went together -

Claudia Rose
Claudia Rebecca

emsyj · 06/04/2012 22:33

Haha abbypumpkin my friend Claudia is (was - now retired) a lawyer! Grin

I would not describe her as 'well groomed, polite and well to do' though - she is loud and raucous with a taste for rather, ahem, unusual clothes (which she manages to pull off as she's very tall and very thin).

Forthcoming · 06/04/2012 22:26

Love it! Although personally I'm biased as have an Isabella and a ClaudiaWink. Isabella, 'Izzy' actually named Claudia 'Claudie' and it's stuck. We have some middle names with pretty meanings to counterbalance the guilt for 'lame'!! Lots of people comment on Claudia as a nice name though..

abbypumpkin · 06/04/2012 20:43

I have never ever met or heard of one in real life. I would expect a claudia to be very well groomed, polite and well to do. I can imagine a claudia being a consultant or a lawyer

OddBoots · 06/04/2012 20:04

I love it - maybe because I am a lame/crippled person myself but probably because I know some lovely women with the name.

craigslittleangel · 06/04/2012 19:48

AND NOW THAT MY OWN DD IS NOT HELPING ME TYPE...

I think that the Cloudie version is more a European pronunciation. I used to live in Italy, an always associated that pronunciation with there. Giving that your DD is Isabella the Italian connection works.

Unfortunately the only Claudia I knew was a right madam! But loved the name before I met her. Loving the nick names even more now.

I think Louise goes great with Claudia. If I had another girl, I might consider giving her Elizabeth as a middle name, as it?s the English version of Isabella. But then I'm a little strange/sad/stupid like that.

Unfortuantely the only Claudia I knew was a right maddam! But loved the name before I met her. Loving the nick names even more now.

Love it

Was on our list for DD but when she popped out, she just wasn't a Claudia

Still think its a great name

VirginiaPosh · 06/04/2012 19:37

I have a Claudia, pronounced Clawdia. She's 12 now and loves her name even though she knows the meaning so I wouldn't worry at all about that. She does get called Claude by her friends but to me she's always been my little Cloudie :-)

emsyj · 06/04/2012 19:17

I love it, it was on our list for DD and will be on the list again if we have another DD one day. I have a friend called Claudia (who is about the same age as my DMum) and she's great, really good fun and has had a very interesting and colourful life so it only has good associations for me. And yes, I did A-level Latin! It's a lovely name.

I also really like Claudine (and sort of similar, Celeste and Celestine - in fact would have had Celestine at the top of my list if it didn't majorly clash with our surname).
