Hit me with Welsh boys names

Really struggling to find a Welsh boy's name that we like, I've been through them all just about, and while I like some, they all have drawbacks. DS has got the one boy's name we liked and works for our wider family (pronunciation and so on).

Be grateful for suggestions other than what's in the Heini Gruffudd welsh names for children book.

Talfryn, Taliesin, Talfan all nice but we're short arses so 'Tal' might be a bit funny Grin. i see your point about Hedd, middle name defo

Hedd will not be pronounced correctly by non-Welsh speakers - i have found that no matter how many times you explain that it's a th like in either or mother, it becomes a th like in tooth.

So he will be Heth pronounced like Seth for lots of the time!

I can think of very few names that aren't in the Heini book!

How about Talfryn?

One of my favourite teachers was Ieuan, and no one (southern england) had a pronunciation problem afaik apart from calling him gayan behind his back

Geraint is also lovely, or Daffyd nn Dai?

Janoschi yes there's part of me going 'bugger it' go with what you like, but then it's not me who's got to live with it. I've got a very boring, common English name so I don't know how it is to have an usual tricky name.

Always used to like Iestyn, gone off it recently. I think it's easy to like lots of names but imaging giving it to your child is the hard part!

Love Hedd. I'd imagine most introductions would be verbal so I'd say most folk should pronounce it okay. What you'd get written on Christmas cards would be another story! I never cared that my name was spelt wrong (Welsh too). Found it rather funny how many varieties I got, often in the same letter :-)

If you are English and had no clue about welsh pronunciation (a lot of people!) I can see why llew would become Lou...if you are welsh and say that there is no excuse!

Are you going for hedd or llew as a middle name?

yeah I think I could get over the MP thing but a Llew I know often gets called 'Lou'.

We like Wil, but as Men in Black 3 is out this year we'll give that a miss too....Blush

I can't get my head round how hedd would sound! Even though it looks like it should be a simple pronunciation, if you're not sure many people, even in wales, would pronounce it right it could be very annoying for you and yr soon to be ds having to tell everyone the right way to say it.

I think llew smith sounds a good strong name as long as it being the same as the mp won't bother you in the long run?

Hedd is lovely but I think that sadly only a minority of people (even in Wales) would pronounce it correctly.
