If you have a Lola...

...what age is she, what middle name did you use and what negative (and positive) connotations have you had in RL ?

I love the name and am aware of the Kinks, Barry Manilow and the Lolita book through MN, but wondered if that is perhaps a certain age thing as I would not automatically think that (age 30) I would more than likely think of Charlie and Lola...

Anything you can tell me will be bril!

Thanks to all that answered. Wasnt really looking for comments from people to tell me how much they dislike the name or dont have a Lola - hence my original post ''If you have a Lola'' - if you think of the Kinks or Barry Manilow and dont like the association, then that's fine... I doubt her peer group will though.

Helpful to know the middle names from parents of Lola's too so thank you

I quite like Lola Beatrix, but unsure...

Happy Friday to all - even the non-Lola fans (hey the World would be boring if we were all the same, right?) x

My Lola is also Lolly, Stealth :)

StealthNinja · 05/04/2012 03:55

My niece is a Lola, aged 8 months. She's a Lola Mae. Her mum is very glam (sister in law), and they are both always dressed impeccably like naturalbaby's Lola .

I'm sure they've had the pre-operative transsexual and showgirl comments but they don't seem bothered by it.

I wasn't a fan of the name at first but she is so damned cute that I can't help but like it now. BIL and SIL call her Lolly as a nn.

outmonday · 04/04/2012 19:38

It's short for Dolores, which means Sorrows.

babyblabber · 04/04/2012 17:18

i LOVE the name lola but DH says no way, it's the name a pre-operative transexual and nothing i say changes his mind. hasn't gotten great feedback when i've mentioned it to friends and relatives but i think it's lovely.

Bethlf · 04/04/2012 13:32

I have a Lola, I love the kinks (yes I know what the song is about!) and had no idea that it was so popular or would be regarded as chavvy, I just loved it. Lo is 2 and despite being told how popular it is i've yet to meet another Lola. I also found it mean 'strong woman' which I liked. I'm happy for her to use Delores if she wants a longer name later on....go with how you feel!

LemonTurd · 02/04/2012 22:41

I don't know any in RL, but when I hear the name I think of Lola Adesioye. Very talented woman.

DaenerysTargaryen · 02/04/2012 22:39

I prefer Lotta! But I'm one in a million who actually likes the name Dolores and would have used it for dd2 had dp not vetoed it like his name (the one she ended up with) was any better.... Angry

Lola is lovely :)

MsMarple · 02/04/2012 22:35

Kinks song springs to mind for me too, sorry.

How about Tallulah instead?

Idratherberiding · 01/04/2012 16:23

My Lola is 11. Nowadays I do think people hear it and think Charlie and Lola, and not the Kinks, but when she was born it wasn't that common, and yes, I did have a lot of "why have you named your child after a song about a transvestite?". I didn't name her after the song, I just liked the name - it's short and cute. I had to really fight with ex-DP to call her it, ex-MIL thought it was "a tramp's name"! I call her Louie or Lolly sometimes. Perhaps if you don't like the Kinks reference you could consider Lila, maybe? But then, Oasis have a Lila song, don't they..?

TheEpilator · 01/04/2012 11:16

I love the name. I would definitely think "her name was Lola, she was a showgirl" and imagine her dancing covered in feathers and sparkles - but that is probably far preferable to "I couldn't understand why she walked like a woman but talked like a man".

However, as she grows up her friends won't know about those references and most people will probably in time just associate it with Charlie and Lola, which is quite cute.

Only thing that put me off using it was how popular it has become and also it doesn't work with our surname.

On the plus side my DS2's name was a popular TV character when he was born but now no-one even remembers the TV show and it is just 'him'.

3boysgirlontheway · 01/04/2012 11:09

I think of the Lola character on Eastenders, but, she won't be around forever either!

RightsaidFreud · 01/04/2012 10:55

Lola is the name of my parents dog. But she is basically their baby now myself and my sister are grown up. I like it, for girls and pets :)

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 31/03/2012 21:50

Oh I love Lola. DP won't allow it.

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 31/03/2012 18:31

Chav I imagine.

mirry2 · 31/03/2012 18:27

mrsshears, whats the dreaded ch word? I've been wracking my brains.

pixiestix · 31/03/2012 18:22

I'm the same age as you and I would automatically think of Barry Manilow and Lolita. Not to my taste at all.

welovesausagedogs · 31/03/2012 17:19

I like Lola, it's really pretty - more likely to think of Charlie and Lola.

Lola Rose is pretty
or Lola Cecelia
Lola Bella

mumofjust1 · 29/03/2012 22:02

Lola is a beautiful name Smile

Alligatorpie · 29/03/2012 22:00

I like it, it would have made my shortlist, but dd is Charley and we couldn't do that.
I think that when this generation of Lola's are 30, no one will even think about the above connotations.
If you like it, I would use it.

pinkyp · 29/03/2012 21:56

I like Lola, it's like Molly a nice cute girly name. I only know of one & also a dog called Lola I don't think it's chavvy at all

peskimo · 29/03/2012 21:50

the Lola I know (age 7) is a proper pink princess with tantrums and tiaras all over the place. Its rather spoilt the name for me, I'm afraid.

I really like it. I know a Lola and her mum is v.glam and the 2 of them are always dressed in gorgeous clothes. Can't wait to hear what her dd2 will be called.

Charlie and Lola won't be around forever.

SoozyWoozy · 29/03/2012 21:23

Lola, she was a showgirl....

But I still love it :)

Also like Lila.
