We would love a middle name that could reflect a musical connection as a tribute to a beloved Grandfather who is a professional musician.
Does anyone have any good suggestions? We are thinking of Allegra.

Semi quaver?

lurkingmurking · 30/03/2012 17:54

Merle - means songbird I believe

DoubleGlazing · 29/03/2012 22:48

Mavis is of Old French origin. :o at Turdus Philomenus! Philomenus is actually pretty good - the London Philomenus Orchestra has a certain ring to it!

SodoffBaldrick · 29/03/2012 22:22

I really meant to whoever said, 'you can't call a child Allegra'. :)

ElephantsAreMadeOfElements · 29/03/2012 22:19

Indeed, but probably not "Turdus Philomenus" levels of adventurousness...

SodoffBaldrick · 29/03/2012 22:10

This is a middle name we'e talking about here - the OP can be a little bit adventurous, without offending too many sensibilities, surely? Confused

serin · 29/03/2012 22:08

DoubleGlazing! the latin for song thrush is not Mavis, it's Turdus Philomenus!! Grin

cecilia is gorgeous.

What's wrong with Allegra, cumbria ? Confused

lancelottie · 29/03/2012 09:53

Ah, that's how you do it.

helpyourself · 29/03/2012 09:52

I copied and pasted it from my hotmail account, where I have a friend called Therese with accents going both ways. Then I had to delete the rest of the name and add Beyonc to it. Hmm

lancelottie · 29/03/2012 09:48

Of course you can call a child Allegra! It's a fairly well known and established name.

lancelottie · 29/03/2012 09:46

Helpyourself -- there, there, I really like Cecilia (but not Beyonce with or without the accent. Can't remember how you do those).

cumbria81 · 29/03/2012 09:42

I am sorry but you can't really call a child Allegra

weemumbelina · 29/03/2012 09:30

Embarrassed face emoticon.
My DD was messing about - I didn't realise she'd actually SENT the message.
I hope you get some inspiration from some of the other lovely suggestions.
(At least my DD didn't come up with Dee.
Or Bea!)
Sorry.

or how about Clara-Nette?

lancelottie · 28/03/2012 21:57

There are rumoured to be sisters somewhere called Dodo, Rere, Mimi, Lala and Soso, if that helps... don't know if they got as far as Octavia.

SodoffBaldrick · 28/03/2012 21:27

You could just raid the Italian language, since those are all the words used to describe the ways the composer intends for the music to be played. But to anyone not in the know, they'd just think you were using a random noun or verb! Grin
