DH is really keen on Sophia but I am very worried that it is just too popular and DD will be one of many.

2, one five and one 19

FoofFighter · 02/04/2012 20:18

I don't know any. I hope to know one in about 7 months time though! Wink

TidyDancer · 31/03/2012 21:00

It's definitely getting more popular, but if you love it, you shouldn't drop it just because of its popularity.

We have one Sophie within the family and I know a couple of others called Sophie/Sophia.

octaviarose · 31/03/2012 19:31

Yes you are wise indeed I should not let it put me off a name we really like. I didn't think twice about Isabella even knowing how popular it was as I think I chose it when about 5 after reading my Grandmothers book of household management by yes Mrs Isabella Beaton!

I know one, she is 3

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/03/2012 21:37

Two aged two as well in DDs nursery class.
One Sophie aged two.

blondieminx · 29/03/2012 21:36

There are 2 both aged 2 in my DD's nursery class. Both very cute Smile

chocoroo · 29/03/2012 21:33

Probably one per year for the under-5 's and a few Sophie's too.

But if you have an Isabella then I think you should be less worried about how popular a name is. I know at least the same number of Isabel/le/la 's as I do Sophie/a's and they go beautifully together IMO.

thegreylady · 29/03/2012 21:20

One baby Sophia but lots of Sophies

1 x 2yo Sofia

I wouldn't think of it as a popular name though.

RobinSparkles · 29/03/2012 20:46

I know one who is about 7 months old around here and it is my DD's middle name. Her first name is Isabel funnily enough :o

When I chose it it wasn't very common at all!

mumbaisapphire · 29/03/2012 20:35

Agreed - I know 2 Isobel/Isabel's, and 2 Sophia's. But, I also know 2 Hannah's, 2 Mia's, 2 Elizabeth's, 2 Ella's and 2 Madaleine's....and 3 Alice's - 4 if you count the one I went to school with donkey's years ago. A name maybe considered popular with regard to the statistics, but you can't predict how many you will come into contact in real life. If you love the name, it's not worth boycotting on the off chance your local area is overrun with them. I should point out also that although I know all these little girls, in most cases they don't know each other, and live hundreds or even thousands of miles apart from each other!

puzzletree · 29/03/2012 20:21

Surely Sophie/Sophia must be the same level of popularity as Isabel/Isabella/Isobel/Isabelle. I think they go well together.

FairyPenguin · 29/03/2012 20:17

I agree with Surf25. If you love it, why not use it? I know a 13 month old Sophie, a 3 yo Sophia and a 33 yo Sophie. I think it's a lovely name.

Surf25 · 29/03/2012 20:13

Aw that's a shame OP. I was just coming on to say we have a 1 yo dd Sophia, and the only other one I know is 7. It was a last minute change of mind for dd2's name and I absolutely love it, think it's a beautiful name, lovely meaning too (wisdom) etc etc. It's all relative. Please just make sure you pick a name you love as you can't control what other people call their babies and you might pick a second-choice name which you think is more unusual and then find there are 1/2/3 in dd's class...

octaviarose · 29/03/2012 19:28

Boo I feel put off my hearing just how many other Sophia's there would be. And it would have gone so perfectly with our other DD Isabella.

0 Sophias.
I know one Sophie in her 40s.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/03/2012 08:08

DD2 is 11 and there are three Sophias/Sofias in her class.

CheshireDing · 29/03/2012 08:03

In our baby group there is:-

1 x Sophia
3x Sophie

I also know:-

1x Sofia (she is about 10 now)

Just mentioning the Sophie's because it is so similar really and that's what would put me off it. Pretty name though.

puzzletree · 29/03/2012 07:32

None

AnnaFender · 28/03/2012 23:16

I have come across at least one in every nursery group my DDs have been in and DD1 now has one in her reception class and two at childminders.

TuesdayNightClub · 28/03/2012 23:03

Both baby girls I know born in the last few months have been sophia. It's a very lovely name but I predict it will be top five this year and probably for s few years to come which personally puts me off.

Posey · 28/03/2012 22:21

Just 1, age 15

mardarse · 28/03/2012 22:20

Just one - my 3 year old DD. I still think it's a beautiful name and whilst climbing up the most popular list, I don't know of any others at preschool.
