struggling with boys names

I am expecting dc3.

we have 2 dds already. have a name (possibly) for dc3 if a girl, but struggling with boys names.

we like unusual (but not in a trendy yoooonique spelling kind of way) names - uncommon, I suppose.

anyway, names we have so far, but I am not convinced I could actually use them are:

Giles
Lyndon
Casimir

We do also like more 'usual' names, such as Edward, Dominic and Thomas but, well, they are just so, I don't know, expected I guess. most of the dd's friends younger brothers are Oliver or William or George.

I know a Lyndon who turned out to be a lying cheating twat

GwenGotLost · 28/03/2012 11:21

I liked Caspian; it's an established name so far as the Narnia chronicles; I enjoyed the stories of Prince Caspian :o

The was a Lyndon in my class at Uni; he didn't seem to suffer from the name and was a nice guy :)

happybigbump · 28/03/2012 11:12

I quite like Lyndon, although haven't ever met a real life one. Sounds manly and cool to me.

I also like Arthur (altough becoming quite popular round here), Aneurin or how about Quentin (will be name of our bump probably)?

thanks again.

Dashiell doesn't grab me, I'm afraid.

Mags - good list, you definitely 'get' where we're coming from. but:

can't use (already used in close family)
Benedict
Miles (potentially)
Cillian
Hugo (and therefore Hugh).

I like (but dh doesn't) Gilbert. Ralph is ok, but I would want it as RaLph (with the 'L') and dh would want 'Rafe'

I love Arthur, but dh won't have it. I also (continuing the theme) love Macsen but already have a Max in the family, so a bit too close.

Patrick is one we both quite like. I am wary of it being shortened though - it is one of those names, like christopher, that everyone seems to feel the need to shorten, and I dislike Pat and Rick/Ricky etc. It is a potential middle name though (as is Lyndon from our current names list, as although both of us like it, it doesn't seem to sit right as a first name)

Workinglate: already have an Archie in the family. Fox and Huckleberry are a bit too 'out there' for me, but I like your style!

Boys names are definitely harder (or seem to be this time around, anyway!)

I am having the exact same problem - we are considering:

Fox
Harry
Archie
Huckleberry
Atticus

But to be honest none of them really jumps out as 'clicking'. Boys' names suddenly seem so hard!

MagsAloof · 28/03/2012 09:08

Not massively keen on your choices, I'm afraid, but I get where you're coming from!

I love Cassisus. Cass is such a cool nn.

Dashiell is also lovely.

Miles
Clement
Gilbert (love this)
Cillian
Silas
Ralph
Arthur
Patrick
Nathaniel
Aneurin (love this)
Benedict
Francis
Lucian
Hugo or Hugh
Asa
Clarence
Herbie

Bearcrumble · 28/03/2012 08:13

What about Dashiell?

greenhairedmonster · 28/03/2012 07:26

Thanks.

Giles is a bit love it/hate it. And I think BIL (2nd baby due 4 weeks before dc3) might be thinking of Miles, so that would count it out.

dh won't have Caspar, and while I like Caspian (and might be able to persuade dh as he doesn't hate it), not sure it doesn't just cross the line into try too hard/made up-ness.

agree Edward, Thomas, Dominic etc all a bit bland. nice, but bland.

Casimir is quite nice, though I prefer Caspar/Casper, Cassius or Caspian.

Lyndon and Giles are awful.

Edward, Dominic and Thomas are all nice, but a bit bland.
