Is Callum a naughty boys name...?

Latest addition to our playgroup. I like it a lot but DSis tells me, as a teacher, that it is a 'naughty boys name'.

Eh?? She has a list of such names and will happily reel them off at any opportunity.

Anyone know of this phenomena?

I went to school with a Callum (we called him Cal though)

He's now in prison for stabbing a drug dealer to death and then setting fire to the car he'd left the body in.

So er... pretty naughty, yes.

My sister also has 'Lucy' on her naughty names list but it wouldn't put me off the name - I would have called DD Lucy if DH hadn't vetoed it (for reasons entirely unconnected to the 'naughty kids at school' issue).

Thing is parents who call their children plain, forgettable or royal names like Harry, George, Elizabeth, - well they don't tend to be the parents that are hollering across the playground or yanking their child down a super-market isle, they are just quieter parents generally.

'awful sinkhole estate' 'chav'

Wahwahs · 25/03/2012 18:13
Grin I am ashamed to say it, but Connor/Callum/Kyle are on my 'naughty boys' list! I used to love the name Connor - until I taught 5 of them in a row, bless them.

I think Callum is a lovely name for lovely little boys who are angels! (Guess what my ds is called :)) Tyler on the other hand. ..........

ProfessorSunny · 25/03/2012 18:11

For me it is Jack. We were talking in the staff room about how there were a lot of boys called Jack who seemed to have challenging behaviour, when I went home my DS was telling me about a boy who was always in trouble in his class, I asked if he was called Jack (as a joke) and DS replied "yes, how did you know?!" :)

I am sure there are some lovely, well behaved children called Jack but I have not met one.

Oh, how ridiculous! Teachers shame on you!

Callum is a lovely name. I only know one and he is a great little chap.

Angelico · 25/03/2012 18:05

Lol @ thistle :o

Angelico · 25/03/2012 18:05

'Dean' and 'Jordan' are the worst Hmm IME. And anything outlandish / attention seeking if the parents are chavs. So 'Tallulah' tends to be fine if parents are hippies / lecturers / artists etc but a mad thing if coming from some awful sinkhole estate. Sorry - politically incorrect but true :o

IHeartKingThistle · 25/03/2012 18:04

The absolute worst for me was a Liam. I would add it to the list, actually, based on him alone.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/03/2012 18:04

Both the Callums I have known have been ordinary little boys- nothing spectacularly naughty or angelic about either of them.

usualsuspect · 25/03/2012 18:01

The naughtiest boy I ever knew was called James

SoupDragon · 25/03/2012 18:00

"Yes Callums are always dreadful"

Well, I know of at least one who isn't :) His brother and sister OTOH... definitely on the naughty list :o

IHeartKingThistle · 25/03/2012 17:59

All the girls called Jordan I have taught have been lovely, though!

I never said judge them, I said form an initial opinion.

ShowOfHands · 25/03/2012 17:57

Arf. Just asked dd if she knows any Callums. She's 4:

"Yes one in year 2. He is very very naughty and has his name on the board for pushing and spitting".

usualsuspect · 25/03/2012 17:57

Nope. I never judge people by their names

BeNiceOrLeave · 25/03/2012 17:56

Apparently my DS has a naughty boy's name too. Even I have a naughty boy's name!! Shock

BackforGood · 25/03/2012 17:56

I wouldn't have Callum on that list. Smile

SoupDragon · 25/03/2012 17:54

So, usual, you never ever form an initial opinion based on someone's name?

IHeartKingThistle · 25/03/2012 17:54

We don't usualsuspect, we just probably wouldn't choose those names for our own DC. Different thing entirely.
