Is Callum a naughty boys name...?

Latest addition to our playgroup. I like it a lot but DSis tells me, as a teacher, that it is a 'naughty boys name'.

Eh?? She has a list of such names and will happily reel them off at any opportunity.

Anyone know of this phenomena?

The naughtiest boy in my first primary school was called Wayne - he had to stand next to the headmistress on the stage in the school hall for a specially-gathered assembly and make a public apology for flushing another boy's coat down the toilet! Shock

fairimum · 26/03/2012 09:11

I have taught 3 Callum's and it wouldn't be a name I chose! lol

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 26/03/2012 09:06

Back in the day (80's) when I was at primary school, naughty boys were called Dean, Brad and Steven.

When I was at school in the 80's, the naughtiest boy was called Liam- he was obviously ahead of his time Grin .....But his partner in crime was called Steven so your theory holds

DD goes to a childminder with a Tyler and he's lovely! A really sweet little boy and DD absolutely loves him. He always comes to talk to me when I go to pick up DD and often helps me find her shoes/coat etc. Although a friend who sends her little boy to the same place said he threw her DS's toy onto a garage roof - so maybe a twinkle of naughty in there too ha! Grin

I have a 14yr old Connor.

Compared to my other two, he is an angel. Always has been, I'm glad I had him first Grin

I have a very 'spirited' Callum in my family! He is lively to say the least, not really what I'd call naughty tho. He is full of joy and I've seen him be kind nearly as many times as ive seen him be naughty.

I will add that my 5yo is called Connor, and am sad to see that on the naughty list! He can be the sweetest little boy when he feels like it, but cheeky & back chatting and annoying to his little sister the rest of the time...I'd say about 70/30 split. Still not what I'd class as naughty, especially not at school.

fluffypillow · 26/03/2012 00:27

My callum is perfect Grin and never naughty Wink

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 26/03/2012 00:23

yes, it is.
My Calum with one L is extra naughty.

UmmOfUmbridge · 26/03/2012 00:11

Back in the day (80's) when I was at primary school, naughty boys were called Dean, Brad and Steven. Girls were usually Leanne and Michelle :)

I personally know a horrid Callum but he is purely a product of his abysmal upbringing :( I also know a lovely little one. Interesting thread...

Angelico · 25/03/2012 23:55

Totally forgot about Tyler... so true!

birthdaygurl · 25/03/2012 23:52

YES and so is Lewis.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 25/03/2012 23:50

My mum used to have a 'naughty name' list back in the 80's. It was a bit tongue-in-cheek but somehow, the same names would come up again and again...

and it was a family joke that if someone was hollering for a William in the supermarket/school fete/park etc, he always turned out to be misbehaving. (My brother is a William.) Grin

Callum? The only one I've ever come across is a wee horror in DS1's preschool. He punched DS1's baby brother in the face and is often to be seen beating up other children. I think he's getting some help with his behaviour - hope so, as he's tiny and it's such a shame. Sad

From recent Metro:

"Youngsters called Callum, Chelsea and Connor are earmarked as troublemakers on the first day of class.
Girls called Aleisha, Casey and Crystal put teachers on edge, as do boys named Kyle, Liam, Jake and Brooklyn.
Some 49 per cent of teachers make an assumption about a child just from their name, according to research by parenting club Bounty.com.
'Teachers are only human and make assumptions like the rest of us,' said Faye Mingo, from Bounty.com.

There is something in the c/k name thing (though these are my and dh initials!)

I work in v deprived area- some days every other toddler child I see is called Kayden/Kaiden/Caden. It is hugely popular in this area.

Other poss up and coming naughty names would be Billy, Logan, Mckenzie and Tyler

girliefriend · 25/03/2012 20:24

The naughty boys in dd class are

Callum
Connor
Junior
Tyler

Kieran

The nice boys are called

MatchsticksForMyEyes · 25/03/2012 20:19

Agree completely BitchyHen. That has been my experience from my 7 years of teaching. Reece/Rhys is top of my list though.

letseatgrandma · 25/03/2012 20:13

Oooh, I'd forgotten about Tyler! I have three Tylers, two Callums, two Alfies and two Connors in my class this year...

BitchyHen · 25/03/2012 19:10

Lots of names beginning with a C or K are naughty boys' names eg:
Connor, Callum, Kyle, Kieran, etc.

londonmackem · 25/03/2012 19:10

Conor for me, also Jade when it comes to girls.

wimini · 25/03/2012 18:49

Paige. Elle. Riley. Connor.

HolyLentenPromiseBatman · 25/03/2012 18:46

I know a family who have 4 boys, Tyler, Bradley, Kyle and Callum! The teachers must have been quaking in their boots when they enrolled!

frazzlerock · 25/03/2012 18:42

The only Callum I know is pretty hard work.
Two teacher friends (who don't know eachother) have both said Callum is top of their 'naughty boys names' list.
Apparently so is Jack (I have one of these and he's certainly trying at the best of times)

letseatgrandma · 25/03/2012 18:41

Definitely.

It's right up there with Reece/Rhys, Jaden, Alfie, Cain, Charlie, Liam. Number one is still Connor though!

PestoPenguin · 25/03/2012 18:41

The only Callum I know is, er, lively Wink.

The only Connor I know is pretty much an angel Smile

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 25/03/2012 18:38

It is a name of a quite naughty boy, who isn't as naughty as Kade.
