Jude or Rudy?

Thought we had made a definite choice of name for our wee man, but now another name we like has been introduced. Can't decide. Need to firm things up before he puts in an appearance. Mind you, I suppose we could wait and see what name he "looks more like" :). Thoughts/preferences/opinions?

I have a Rudi. Love it.

slapmeonthepatio · 27/03/2012 14:09

I think I know what your DH means about the Jude/Jew comments, WinkyWinkola. I have seen photographs in books about WW2 with 'Jude' plastered all over the walls - if I were Jewish, it might rule it out for me, too.

5madthings · 26/03/2012 19:47

it is german and popular in germany, hungary and spain :)

5madthings · 26/03/2012 19:36

its not american, if anything its german!

rudyardy is nice! ours is just Rudi, Rudi Arlo actually and we love it :)

I like both but dh won't have Jude because he's Jewish and doesn't want Jude the Jew comments. Hmm Odd train of thought but there you go.

I'd go for Rudy but full name Rudyard, not horrid Rudolph

charliesweb · 26/03/2012 18:42

I have a Jude. We call him ruddy judey as a nickname sometimes, I suspect we'll have to stop doing that soon as he's nearly 5 and will probably start objecting! I like both names but obviously prefer Jude. Lots of people have complimented us on our name choice.

usualsuspect · 26/03/2012 18:40

Both cool names , bit I think I prefer Jude.

ChineapplePunk · 26/03/2012 18:39

I love both too. Rudy is such a cool little name. I know Jude is a bit more popular, but like you, BeaditAli, I am quite wistful about this name. It's kinda beautiful. :)

I love both. It's not often I find myself saying that on here.

slapmeonthepatio · 26/03/2012 18:05

They are both great names - sorry, I don't think I'd be able to pick either :)

I can't quite believe some of these comments. Really - it sounds like 'rude', honestly. You're just being silly.

hellokitty123 · 26/03/2012 12:49

Jude is much nicer than Rudy/Rudolph.

BeaditAli · 26/03/2012 12:46

Jude DEFINITELY JUDE! I feel quite wistful about the name.... Dh vetoed it Angry

mopsyflopsy · 26/03/2012 12:21

I'm not that keen on either but if I had to choose then Jude. Agree that 'rude' is just so dominant in Rudy.

NarkedPuffin · 26/03/2012 12:19

Jude

evamummy · 26/03/2012 12:17

Oh, and Jude is too feminine sounding for me, sorry.

evamummy · 26/03/2012 12:17

I'm not keen on Rudy/Rudi due to the 'rude' sound. I have an elderly German uncle called Rudolph, nickname Rudi, but at least in German you haven't go the rude association, so it works better in other languages imo.

5madthings · 26/03/2012 12:00

we have a Rudi, because of the song and its a great name, he never gets called rude! roodlebug, tends to be his nickname, but mainly just Rudi, he loves his name (he is just 4) and we love it to :)

squoosh · 26/03/2012 11:58

A Message to you Rudy is a brilliant tune. This however would be the best thing about being called Rudy.

Zig and Zag used to call farts rudies, and this is what the name always reminds me of, this and my neighbour's sausage dog.

Jude is much better.

knackeredmother · 25/03/2012 23:18

Love Rudy. My ds was so very nearly a Rudy. Dh is a BIG specials fan and so is my now 2 year old ds. If I ever had another he would be Rudy.

BackforGood · 25/03/2012 23:14

Really not keen on Rudy - as someone else said, he'd end up being called rude all the time.

ChineapplePunk · 25/03/2012 23:02

Thanks all. I think I'm still coming down on the side of Jude. This all stemmed from DH being at a Specials concert last month and becoming quite excited at the prospect of having a little boy named Rudy. :)

I have a Jude - he is lovely and it's a good name.

hackneyzoo · 25/03/2012 20:05

Chinapple... this is the exact dileema we had a few years ago...DH wanted Rudy and I wanted Jude... We now have a Jude Grin I love both names though, and it was really hard to decide.

Crumm24 · 25/03/2012 19:50

Jude, definitely. I absolutely love the name Jude! XxX
