How would you pronounce Jozef? As Joseph or Yo-seph?

Josef = Joe-sef
Yosef = Yoh-sef

In other words, I'd pronounce them phonetically as written.

OpenMindedSceptic · 18/03/2012 14:50

It's my father's name! On the continent it is pronounced Yo-zef. In english speaking countries would be same as Joseph or perhaps with zzzz sound.
I really like the name!

EdithWeston · 18/03/2012 14:09

Yo-zef

(quite a soft 'z' though, about midway between s and z).

pixiestix · 18/03/2012 13:57

Joseph but with a bit of a zzzz in the middle! Grin

Yo-zef. OH has spent a lot of time in Eastern Europe and my mother was from Germany so I would automatically assume it was an Eastern European name and pronounce the J as a Y.

the one I know his name is said the same as English Joseph. I often wonder why, because i'd like to say JoZeff instead.

DramaInPyjamas · 18/03/2012 13:38

I'd pronounce it Yo-Seph. That's how I said it in my head when I read the thread title.

JugsMcGee · 18/03/2012 13:37

Joseph.

picnicbasketcase · 18/03/2012 13:35

Joseph, but I'd probably be wrong.

LucyLastik · 18/03/2012 13:34

As in Joseph - went to school with a Jozef who pronounced it Joseph
