For ages I thought that I would call a second DD Milena, after Milena Jesenska. We both love it. But it turns out that there is a poo-related medical condition called 'Malena' (SP?) which will be everyone's first thought when they hear the name.

Basically, I can't find another name we both like. We would like something reasonably short and uncomplicated, but slightly unusual, and it can't begin with 'F'. Our DD is called Elsa. Any suggestions?

Definitely poos with blood in them, smells bad too. Sorry!

MrsBeakman · 17/03/2012 22:30

It is a very nice name and could be shortened to Millie or Lena, which are nice too.

marsbar2000 · 17/03/2012 21:16

i have a milena (also after Jesenska). lovely and great name. this is the first time I heard about malena Biscuit

if you like the name, then go for it!

PrincessPrecious · 17/03/2012 21:02

Alannah is nice, so is Serena. What about Sabina or Selene?

mathanxiety · 17/03/2012 18:37

How about

Mila
Alannah
Serena
Elena
Elin
Magdalena
Mahalia
Mella
Melania
Lyra
Lara

I know a teenage Mahala. Most unusual.

Am biased because my DDs best friend is called Milena. She is adopted and is from Columbia. I think its a beautiful, elegant name that suits all ages and have never heard of the similar sounding medical condition and I am very well up on medical matters (I have watched Casualty and Holby City forever and read the Mail's health section, so Im virtually qualified to do open-heart surgery!LOL Seriously, wouldnt let this put you off. Its not like its a well known ailment such as flu or rubella or chickenpox.

I don't think anyone has suggested Mahala (Muh-har-luh) yet. I love this name, it was on DD's shortlist. It was reasonably popular at the beginning of the 20th Century and I'm surprised it's not more popular today.

SoozyWoozy · 17/03/2012 15:47

popoozle yes, posset is baby sick LOL!

Amelia - a rare birth defect meaning without limb(s).

Sorry to any mums of Amelias!!! The name means work, I think.

Italiangreyhound · 17/03/2012 01:16

'Malena' - never heard of the poo thing.

Popoozle · 16/03/2012 22:13

Soozy - what's the problem with Amelia? My sister is a Dr & visibly squirms whenever she sees lemon posset on a menu. Apparently posset is baby sick Smile?

grumpypants · 16/03/2012 22:07

Melanie? Myleene?

bobbledunk · 16/03/2012 21:58

Not a good idea to call her after tarry shit, imagine her in 25 years time being introduced to the potential love of her life, he's a doctor, she tells him her name, every time he thinks of her he thinks of tar like shit, total turnoff.

SoozyWoozy · 16/03/2012 21:24

I have been on delivery suite where a new mother heard us talking about malaena and thought it was a baby's name so called her baby that.... there's another tale (not sure if it is true) about a baby being called Chlamydia! Likewise, I could never use the name Amelia because of the medical connection.

Nursing ruined me in so many ways....

Popoozle · 16/03/2012 20:35

MN is a mine of name-related information isn't it? I was seriously considering Minnie for DD, until I asked for opinions on here and discovered it meant fanjo in many areas of the UK Hmm. Grateful I asked though Grin. We chose another name.

Might you like Helena (pronounced Helaina) or Mila?

baskingseals · 16/03/2012 20:28

perhaps

baskingseals · 16/03/2012 20:28

Marguerite perhapes?

beautiful name and lovely meaning. It was my great-grandmother's name, and for her wedding she and her bridesmaids had huge bouquets of daisies.

CoteDAzur · 16/03/2012 17:06

Melina.

ScatterChasse · 16/03/2012 16:56

Madara?

I think Cleo's nice, or Lena.

What about Vivien? It's not so common now, and a lovely name imo. And (I checked for you Grin ) no medical associations.

anychocswilldo · 16/03/2012 12:45

Oh dear! I'm a nurse so obviously the medical condition is the first thing I think of. There are so many beautiful names out there, is it really wise to use a name that sounds the same as a condition affecting poo? Please remember that anybody that knows or any medical professional is prob going to smirk when they hear u calling dd that and prob tell everyone at work

pushingthesenses · 16/03/2012 12:25

Oh dear used to work with a Melina and she was nicknamed 'stool' and this was not in a medical setting it was publishing house.

MrsBeakman · 16/03/2012 12:25

Miriam

MrsBeakman · 16/03/2012 12:24

Mira? Miranda?

MrsBeakman · 16/03/2012 12:24

Marina is nice

MrsBeakman · 16/03/2012 12:22

Mena? Minna?
