We've decided to give DD due in June a Welsh middle name. DP is Welsh and we'd love to sort of honour that.

She's going to be called Rosalie and is also having Jean as a middle name.

We like Carys, Aerona, Rhiannon, Eilwen, Isolde, Ffion, Olwen.

We need some help picking and we'd love some other suggestions too.

Thanks.

Maeve is Irish, there is an Irish spelling of it but I have no idea. it's Tomos rather Tomas too, Tomos is a lovely name.

LisaJones1 · 19/03/2012 17:52

I love the names Nia, Rhiannon and Mai for girls and Iwan, Owain, Tomas, Steffan for boys. When I had my 1st I found Welsh Girls Names website really helpful as I allowed me to try different combination of names.

Good luck with the names
x

I really like Maeve and Dilys. Both Welsh I think. Smile

DP is welsh alive been keeping an eye on this thread Grin I saw the name Heledd the other day, which I loved.

ellybett · 18/03/2012 10:00

Morning kayzr!

Love the name ds chose. We're on the hunt for welsh girl names too so thanks for the thread. Plenty of food for thought here!

BelleEnd · 18/03/2012 09:50

Heulwyn isn't one I've heard- It's Heulwen for a girl (always -wen for a girl, -wyn for a boy).

OneLieIn Myfanwy is brilliant! Here, it would be shortnened to Myfi (pronounced Muvvy). :)

ilovemy2babies · 18/03/2012 08:44

Ffion
Bronwen
Mali
Seren
Cerys
Carys
Anwen
Elin
Rhian
Rhiannon

Donki · 18/03/2012 08:20

No one has mentioned Heulwyn - beautiful name.

OneLieIn · 18/03/2012 08:11

All lovely. I also like myfanwy but it's shortened to muff Grin

Oooh lovely Kayzr! I love this new trend for -wen names, they're so pretty. I also adore the name Jean or Jeannie... And Rosalie, for that matter! Yay! :)

madaboutmadmen I also had never heard of Sionedd but there's a MNer who knows of one and also gave her daughter that name. Pretty innit? I have never heard of Madlen, only Modlen- I'd be a bit anxious of people NNing her Mad... :o

DS1 did the picking this afternoon. So DD is going to be Rosalie Jean Olwen. Now hunting down a little baby rugby shirt Grin

just to point out it's Sioned not Sionedd. Madlen is a lovely Welsh name. Girls names in Welsh are beautiful, boys not so (I managed to find a good one ;-) )

BelleEnd · 16/03/2012 07:37

Manon is pronounced exactly as the English, but with stress on the a, not the o. It is the best name

startail · 16/03/2012 01:41

I suggested Angharad for DD2, but DH turned it into anhydrous (without water) Stupid Chemists!

GrandPoohBah · 16/03/2012 00:34

I love Esyllt btw, but DH vetoed for being too difficult to spell for south Londoners. In fairness, I was almost an Angharad but my parents decided that it was a bit unusual for a child brought up in south London too!

GrandPoohBah · 16/03/2012 00:32

Ceinwen? My mamgu's middle name :)

Cwtchbach · 15/03/2012 23:17

Thats how I have always heard it pronounced, my husband vetoed it because that's what they shout in football when someone is being marked apparently.

Kayzr · 15/03/2012 20:55

I think the names that will go into the hat for DS1 to choose from are

Nia
Elin
Carys
Lowri
Olwen
Ffion
Mefin
Seren
Mali

I am not too sure on pronouncing Manon. I keep saying Man-on in my head but am not sure if it is right and DP is away with work so can't ask him. Grin

I have a little Nia :)
Her middle name is Mari.
Other names I liked were: Non, Manon, Gwennan, Mali, Mair, Elin, Lowri, Eleri, Nerys, Cerys, Menna

Jellykat · 15/03/2012 19:37

Oh i love Manon too SoFar

I know a Buddug, shortened to Budd - a lovely name too

ScatterChasse · 15/03/2012 19:35

Catrin and Nia are my favourites I think (I loved the Snow Spider trilogy). I like Bethan, Eirlys (is that snowdrop?) and Cerys too.

I met a little Cariad once, which I thought was quite sweet.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 15/03/2012 19:19

BelleEnd - why thank you :o

Mrsrobertduvall · 15/03/2012 19:01

I have Welsh family and love Eirwen, Eirlys, Carys, Nia, Rhian.
I have noticed that my very Welsh and unusual name is not mentioned here. [ smile]

hairybeast · 15/03/2012 18:54

My DD is Nia Smile

BelleEnd · 15/03/2012 18:41

mejon speaks sense. I once looked on an american names site, which had a vast list of Welsh names for children. I swear to God, they were terrible. One I remember from there was Artaith- Pretty sounding, nice pronounciation- But it isn't a name. It means torture. :o

SoFarWeAreEqual has the best taste in names in the world. :o
