Heard a couple of these recently -

Harry / Henry
John / Jack
Isabella / Belle (seriously)

Really??!!!

Do people not realise one is a nickname for the other?!!!

OP posts:

salter · 14/03/2012 23:38

I went to school with a girl called Charlotte and her younger brother was called Charles. Both had the nn Charlie. It was a bit strange!

LittlePandaBear · 14/03/2012 22:43

pingulingo · 14/03/2012 20:28

annalovesmrbates · 14/03/2012 18:41

I know someone with Billy and Elliot.

OctopusSting · 14/03/2012 18:38

I know a Frank and Ernest. Makes me Grin

phi40 · 14/03/2012 18:35

I know someone called Richard Dickman (hope his DW isn't a MNetter)
and yup, we called him Dick Dickman

Blatherskite · 14/03/2012 18:32

I know of brothers called Freddie and Alfie.

Eggrules · 14/03/2012 18:29

My bf at school had exactly the same name as her mum and older sister Confused. Parents used a family name for older sister instead of her given name and so they decided to try again. One of her brothers had the same name as her dad. As they got older, opening the post was interesting.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 14/03/2012 18:22

I know of a Ronald and a Donald. I actually worked with Donald who told me his brother, nearly the same age was Ronald. Seems like a lack of imagination, but whatever steams your pudding eh.... Hmm

Raahh · 14/03/2012 18:22

I think i 've posted this before, but Dh is called Richard John, and his brother John Richard *(not the real names, just to illustrateGrin)

I have always thought this a bit odd and lacking in imaginationGrin

OnlyWantsOne · 14/03/2012 18:16

Used to do some work with LEA and once came accross twin brothers called Benjamin and Benedict

Both called Ben at school. Nightmare

PurplePidjin · 14/03/2012 18:09

curiousgeorgie · 14/03/2012 18:09

My friend is a receptionist at a doctors surgery and a lady there recently had twins and called them Harry and Hermione.

And I know brothers (not twins though) called William and Billy.

I have a Tilly and DH really wants us to name our next child (if another DD) Lilly!

GladysLeap · 14/03/2012 18:08

I was quite surprised when my friend named her second DD Rhiannon, given that her DD1 is called Shannon.

(Hope she isn't a MNetter)

ButterPecanMuffin · 14/03/2012 18:07

Purple - it's Martin isn't it?!

PurplePidjin · 14/03/2012 17:59

Aston and Astyne

Go on. Guess the surname Grin

tethersend · 14/03/2012 17:55

I have an Angie and am pg with DD2; had we been having a DS, my top boy's name was Denny.

Until it was pointed out that I would have had an Angie and Den.

ButterPecanMuffin · 14/03/2012 17:52

DH has just said he went to school with a boy called Charles, who had sisters called Charlotte and Caroline, both of which are feminine forms of Charles.

phi40 · 14/03/2012 17:48

My teacher at school had twin boys called Nimrod and Zeus

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 14/03/2012 17:40

I do know twins Charlotte and Scarlett, Zoe and Chloe, and Harriet and Harry. You can't miss those.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 14/03/2012 17:39

I almost called dd3 Daisy but didn't because it sounds too similar to dd1's name, Sadie. I only realised because we met Joseph nn Joe and sister Beau, and I was commenting how silly this was. Somebody pointed out that I was about to do something similar. So perhaps some of these parents don't realise.

oikopolis · 14/03/2012 17:33

i know two brothers with exactly the same name. exactly the same. first, middle, last.

they are from Kenya and i understand that this was sometimes done as a superstitious thing -- to confuse the spirits, etc. and also to ensure that if one of them died, the family names would still be carried on etc.

God it must be a bloody nightmare though. Imagine having the exact same name as your sibling. apparently they aren't nicknamed either, they use their birth cert names.

ButterPecanMuffin · 14/03/2012 17:33

There are sisters in our local primary school called Deanna and Brianna, they have a younger sister not in school yet, she's called Rhianna, and an older sister who is now in secondary school called Joanna. No prizes for guessing what the mom is called. There is also a son, he's called Evan.
