If you have a Jemima...

...what other names were on your list? Or what are your other dc called?

Jemima was the only name we even considered for dd and I can't imagine finding a name that I love quite as much :)

Our criteria are:

  • not too popular
  • not too difficult to spell/pronounce

All ideas are welcome, for girls or boys! I do have a couple on my list already but would be interested to see what others first reactions are.
Middle name will probably be something standard like Emma or James.

I like Annie, Ivy, Skye, Seth and Silas.

Not Tabitha - it's just too obvious with Jemima.

MockCroc · 21/03/2012 15:24

I will out myself as having middle name Wendy. I HATE it. Always have. It's embarassing. And because another girl in my class had the same first and surname as me I was always known as MC Wendy. This leads to lots of rhyming teasing. Not sure why Wendy has this effect, but I can confirm I am not bendy, it is true I am often "not very friendly" and certainly "not trendy"...

Like lots of your other options though! I second Dorothea. Jemima and Dorothea: very nice!

deste · 16/03/2012 10:27

My lips are sealed.

shockers · 15/03/2012 23:24

Can I also add... I had the most wonderful, inspirational and encouraging Grandma, and her name was Dorothy. I'm past it now, but I hope for a little Dorothy to cherish sometime in the future Smile.

shockers · 15/03/2012 23:21

I think Ivy... deste?

Although it's not horrible, I do really love Ivy... but there is that connection with poison.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 15/03/2012 20:48

Deste- Muriel?

deste · 15/03/2012 20:34

You couldn't even pay me to tell you, I hate it so much.

ellesabe · 14/03/2012 22:32

Deste I'm itching to know what your middle name is...don't leave us hanging! Grin

Thanks for all the lovely suggestions.

I love Annie, Audrey, Dorothy (or Dorothea/Thea - gorgeous).

Skye and Ivy are sweet.

Really not keen on Muriel, Heidi (too cutesy) Wendy or Verity (both very old fashioned and not due a revival in my opinion).

Of your boy's names I LOVE Otis and Silas, not keen on the others.

My middle name is on your longer list and I have never told anyone what it is because I detest it.

Don't like Skye by the way.

(I like gideon but please not muriel)

shockers · 13/03/2012 21:57

I like Verity, Annie and Dorothy,

Seth and Otis.

DD's middle name is Jemima, because that's what I would have called her if I'd given birth to her. Because she's adopted, we used a variation on her original name as her first name.

Eglu · 13/03/2012 21:42

I have adored Jemima for years. DH did not like it :(

I also loved Clementine, Kitty, Phoebe amongst others.

Out of girls your names Annie and Wendy are okay, don't like the rest.

Boys names I like
Bruno
Ellis
Montgomery
Otis
Seth

GeorginaWorsley · 13/03/2012 21:37

I have a Jemima and Elizabeth.

Agree with Jemima being a great name!

toomuchteaching · 13/03/2012 18:53

Love Annie, Audrey and Dorothy. Really dislike Heidi and Wendy. No strong feeling on the others although I don't think Skye fits with your other choices.

I really like Silas, Percy and Montgomery (in that order), not keen on Ellis or Bruno and the others again I could take or leave. Actually I do like Otis and think that sounds very cool with Jemima whereas the others sound like classic pairings.

ellesabe · 13/03/2012 11:57

Ah thanks for all the lovely suggestions! I notice that some keep cropping up...Eliza,Rufus,Tabitha...

Anyway, since I first posted I have cobbled together some ideas which I thought I'd test out on you lovely ladies :)

Annie
Audrey
Dorothy
Heidi
Ivy
Muriel
Skye
Verity
Wendy

Bruno
Ellis
Gideon
Magnus
Montgomery
Otis
Percy
Seth
Silas

My friends daughter is called Jemima - I'd never really thought of it before they named her that, but it's lovely:) Not too many about either. Great name! Really approve.

toomuchteaching · 13/03/2012 10:30

Jemima is the best name in the world, I'm still so glad we chose it and can't imagine her being anything else. I feel your pain about finding something equally brilliant!

Also on our list were
Kitty
Tessa
Josephine (Posy)

Edward (Ted)
William
Aubrey

Good luck!

FatimaLovesBread · 12/03/2012 21:23

I know a Jemima whose sister is Tabitha
