Somebody I know is expecting a DD. She already has a DD called Ellie but is adamant she is going to call DD2 Ella. Personally I am Shock, just wondering (in no big way) what other people think. At the end of the day she can do what she likes of course. Ella is an ok name, it's just its similarity to Ellie that would make me steer away from it if it were me.

OP posts:

No no noooo. You have to stop her.

BoomOoYattaTaTa · 09/03/2012 19:23

Agree too similar. Blimey GavisonandOn that's even worse. How confusingConfused that must have been for everyone.

It's much better to chose distinguishable names with siblings. We have friends with two girls, Ellie and Lizzy, DH and I always spent several minutes before visiting trying to remember which is which.

HooverTheHamaBeads · 09/03/2012 19:20

We know identical twin girls

Alice and Alex

I kid you not.

ByTheWay1 · 09/03/2012 19:18

I hate where everyone has the same initial - how do you deal with someone else opening your private post in future years etc....

FilterCoffee · 09/03/2012 19:15

Too similar, but I think EdithWeston may be right :) Not everyone wants to discuss names with others in advance - too many opinions may not be helpful.

EdithWeston · 09/03/2012 18:31

Maybe she's just saying that to end name discussions that she doesn't realky want to be drawn into.

Badgerina · 09/03/2012 18:29

God this is just stupid. I work in a school where we have twins Rosemarie and Roseanne; and another unfortunate set of twins Victoria and Victorina. I kid you not. It's ridiculous.

GavisonandOn · 09/03/2012 17:47

lollllllllll

NO.

As a child we had neighbours called Shania and Shaina. FGS, NO.

youarenotsilly · 09/03/2012 17:40

Doing some family history atm.

I'm amazed at how common it was to have an Eliza and an Elizabeth in the family. Or even a Martha and a Mary.

oikopolis · 09/03/2012 17:28

hell no. imagine calling them in for their tea! "Ell-Ellie!" "Ell-Ella!" you know that's how it goes... your brain gets stuck on one and then switches to the other

But it's the same name!

Saw similar in the local paper. Elli-Mae and daisee-mai.

FriskyMare · 09/03/2012 17:13

Aren't they both nn's for Eleanor??

MumToTiny · 09/03/2012 17:02

Sounds about as imaginative as DH's Aunt and Uncle. They've got two daughters called Jane and Janet Hmm

CecilyP · 09/03/2012 16:59

I agree with you, they are practically the same.

AdventureInKL · 09/03/2012 16:55

nooooooooooo

KatAndKit · 09/03/2012 16:44

I would be inclined to agree with you. I wouldn't do it myself but I suppose it's her business. I think they are too similar and it shows a lack of imagination!
