Okay, so the last few times I've suggested names to DH he has laughed a lot. I've got a pretty considerable long list and want to shortern it before showing it to DH. Now we're expecting triplets very soon (yay!) so need names that go together, aren't 'matchy', don't have the same first initial and aren't madly popular (don't want them to be refered to as 'X the triplet'). So I'll post my extra long list below and I would love any feedback (positive and negative!) as well as advise on sibsets.

BOYS
Rupert
Alfred
George
Stanley
Wilfred
Henry
Victor
Hugo
Rufus
Theodore
Christopher
Arthur
Felix
Sid
Jasper
Stuart
Lawrence
Roman
Xander
Sebastian
Euan

GIRLS
Esther
Juliet
Hope
Iris
Elizabeth
Florence
Lydia
Genevieve
Rosa
Martha
Nora
Zara
Beatrice
Phoebe
Anna
Elsa
Violet
Ada
Sadie
Sylvia
Clementine

Two on your boys list are what we called our twin boys - so we share great taste in names!

2 boys and a girl
George, Hugo and Rosa
2 girls and a boy
Florence (Flo), Rosa and Stanley (Stan)

Lovely names
Grin
Congrats, by the way!

LemonDifficult · 07/03/2012 20:08

Theodore, Lawrence, Hope

Hope, Genevieve, Theodore

BenderBendingRodriguez · 07/03/2012 20:13

Congratulations! My first thought is that you have excellent taste in names Grin Some groupings I think work well together, of the names I would use from your list:

Stanley, Wilfred, Lawrence
Rufus, Xander, Sebastian
Theodore, Felix, George

Elsa, Sadie, Juliet
Violet, Esther, Hope
Iris, Lydia, Genevieve
(I love Rosa and Anna too but they didn't fit into a group)

Obviously this assumes you're having three the same, but they're all very mix-and-matchable if not.

gentlydownthestream · 07/03/2012 20:18

Thanks for the replies. Should have said that we are having (most probably!) two boys and a girl :)

Henry, George and Lydia
Theodore, Xander and Clementine
Felix, Christopher and Hope
Rufus, Victor and Zara
Sid(ney), Hugo and Florence

JoInScotland · 07/03/2012 20:36

I vote for Christopher, Laurence, and Phoebe. Or Elsa (I love this one). That would be three names that sound very different, and are timeless/classic.

I used to be a nanny for triplets - two boys and a girl! You are in for some fun times. :)

rachel234 · 07/03/2012 21:50

Rupert, Victor and Lydia would be my choice.

JoInScotland, Laurence is a girls name, the feminine form of Laurent. Better to go with Lawrence for a boy imo.

BorderDancer · 07/03/2012 21:53

How do you pronounce Genevieve? I never know! It looks nice written down!

Beatrice Hope Rosa are the best girls on that list I reckon and Christopher Arthur George for boy

Plonker · 07/03/2012 22:08

First of all, congratulations! How exciting Smile

Ok, from your list I like:
George
Henry
Rufus
Felix
Sebastian (this is my favourite, I adore the name Sebastian!)

From your girls' list, I like:
Juliet
Hope
Elizabeth
Genevieve

Phoebe
Anna
Sadie
Sylvia

I especially love the names, Elizabeth, Hope and Juliet. Beautiful.

So, three boys
Sebastian, Felix and George

Two boys and a girl

Three girls

Good luck and happy choosing

Don't call a boy "Rupert" if he may ever want to join the army.

emmyloo2 · 07/03/2012 22:17

Fabulous taste in names!! I love all your boys names, and I have a 16 month old George. Other favorites are Rufus, Felix and Arthur

birdofthenorth · 07/03/2012 22:18

Lovely lists, some of my great faces on their! George is pretty popular now though (top ten) so could leas to George, The Triplet... though irritatingly they may spend much of early life as "The Triplets" anyway!

Congrats. Tell us what combo you've gone for when they are here Smile

mumofjust1 · 07/03/2012 22:21

Beatrice and Phoebe, Xander and Felix Smile

Sebastian, Hugo and Phoebe (was going for Sadie but noted your first letter stipulation!).

Lovely names and big congrats! The only girls names I'm not mad on are Lydia (just think of Chlamydia) and Clementine ( can't get rid of the tangerine/ satsuma thing).

PeanutButterCupCake · 07/03/2012 22:47

They are such great names.

I like

Rupert
Theodore
Genevieve

Jasper
Sebastian
Violet

abbypumpkin · 08/03/2012 09:14

I prefer
Xander - lovely name, like the idea of having an 'x' name
Sebastian - well known but not common
Roman - a little more unused, nice sound, strong name

Hope - nice meaning, short but pretty
Phoebe - possibly getting more popular but still don't

think there would be many around. Nice sound but think
some people would spell incorrectly
Sadie - like this think it's lovely and girly but still
works on an adult

ilovespinach · 08/03/2012 09:42

Henry, Theo and Elizabeth
Stanley, George and Elizabeth

Great names :)

MaybeItsBecause · 08/03/2012 10:31

I love Henry, Theo, Sebastian and Lawrence. I do know many Theos and Harrys, though. I adore Laurie for a boy.

Your girls names are great. My favourites are Esther, Juliet, Rosa and Sylvia - lovely, simple, classy names.

I do love most of your girls names, actually, but I would rule out Violet, Iris and Florence as extremely 'zeitgeist-ey' names that are becoming very popular, and Martha is a bit 'meh'.

Henry, Lawrence and Sylvia
Henry, Lawrence and Esther
Lawrence, Sebastian and Juliet
Lawrence, Sebastian and Rosa

Stellan · 08/03/2012 11:02

My friend is a triplet, now in her mid-20s, and she and her siblings are named Jack, Katy, and Lucy. Their parents chose names that each had 4 letters and were alphabetical - it's a nice connection but I personally don't think their names are too matchy. The other set of triplets I know (also in their 20s now) are named Karen, Robert, and Sarah.

I really adore your taste in names and honestly think you've listed very sensible choices. I am sure whichever you choose will serve your children well later in life. I really like a lot of them. Good, solid names. Pick names the 3 you like the best and that you feel suit your children.

I do like the idea of the triplets' names matching but NOT being matchy. With that caveat, I like (for example):
Arthur, George and Phoebe (all 6 letters)
Henry, Iris and Jasper (HIJ - consecutive in the alphabet)
Rupert, Sylvia and Theodore (RST - as above)

My favourite names on your list are: Rupert, Wilfred, Hugo, Theodore, Arthur, Jasper, Lawrence, Esther, Juliet, Iris, Martha, Beatrice, Phoebe, Anna and Violet.

Jasper, Rupert and Martha sounds lovely to me. I like Hugo and Iris together but I would suggest picking another 4 letter name if you were to choose those - but not Euan as it's too similar in sound to Hugo. Maybe you could pick Wilfred - nickname Wilf - so you could have a Hugo, an Iris and a Wilf. Lawrence, Esther and Wilfred also sound nice together - similar style but different sounds.

You could do something like this so the next name starts with the first letter of the last for a more subtle connection: Victor, Rufus and Sadie or George, Euan and Nora or Theodore, Esther and Rufus.

I quite like the idea of using individual names with the same meaning too: Asher, Felix and Beatrice/Gwyneth/Hilary all mean happy. There are quite a lot of names that mean peace so you could have a Callum, Frederick, Geoffrey, Humphrey, Jonah, Milo, Oliver, Soloman or a Wilfred and a Frieda, Irene, Jemima, Olivia, Paloma, Serena and a Winifred, for instance.
