What could Annie be short for?

DH and I have always loved the name Annie for a girl. But I don't like the idea of using a shortened name as the actual name on the birth certificate. Any ideas for what a long version of Annie could be? We don't like Annabel I'm afraid...

Not sure if you've already had the baby

Given that the thread was started in 2012, probably yes Grin

Not sure if you've already had the baby, but just thought I would say it's useful if the name & nick name have the same initial (for post & personalised things) also for the person who had an Annie grandmother known as Nancy I found this on Wikipedia, I had no idea!

'The name Nancy was originally a diminutive form of Annis, a medieval English vernacular form of Agnes. In some English dialects, "mine" was used instead of "my" and "Mine Ancy" eventually became Nancy. The name was also later used as an English diminutive of Anne or Ann.'

Smicha I have a female relative whose full name was Annie but known as Nancy all her life!

WineOhWhy - Yes! - I am half welsh and would LOVE Anwen. DH has said no :( :(

But maybe he will change his mind

On the Welsh front I also googled thought of Aneira - actually pronounced Ann - ee -ra - so pretty close to Annie. Any thoughts? We don't live in Wales FWIW.

Alexandra? The nickname link might be a bit tenuous, but hey, Sasha and other not-immediately-identifiable-link nicknames come from it. Grin

Girl at my DD's school called Annie short for Anwen. Any Welsh blood?

hanahsaunt · 07/03/2012 15:53

Our Annie is Anna on her BC (after a last minute wobble about having a grown up name in reserve); we know an Annie who is just that.

BokkleofSterra · 07/03/2012 15:49

Evangeline, , Rosanne.

ViolaCrayola · 07/03/2012 11:11

Hmmm, Annette - could be Annie or Etty/Etta!

I know an Annie which is short for Annette

AThingInYourLife · 06/03/2012 21:28

Anne is a lovely name and not common for babies ATM.

BluebirdsFly · 06/03/2012 20:47

I know a little Annie who is Evangeline and an adult Annie who is Rosanna.

MissTapestry · 06/03/2012 20:45

Anna-rosa

MadameChinLegs · 06/03/2012 20:38

In 'My Sister's Keeper', if I recall, the main character is called Anna as a nn for Andromeda.

Papyrus · 06/03/2012 20:37

My Annie is an Anna. Lovely classic name which suits both a toddler and grown woman.

blackteaplease · 06/03/2012 20:36

Isn't Annie a nickname for Anne? It's not short for anything.

useyourloaf · 06/03/2012 20:32

I think Anne is beautiful, unpretentious and a name that a baby can grow into - if that makes any sense.

No doubt its plain and boring for lots of people.

AThingInYourLife · 06/03/2012 20:04

Anne

ViolaCrayola · 06/03/2012 20:02

terribly boring

useyourloaf not use your loaf!
